The problematics of medieval baths in Prague is very comprehensive, for understanding we have to begin in ancient history spa, the evolution of barber guild and complete hierarchy of this handicraft. In all history are barbers standing on the edge of society, and they tried to change it. Very important role of barbers was they role as healers. Most informations about baths and spa are from illustrations, which shows us also the equipment of public spa. Part of this equipment is also in archeological sources. Projekat MoDeCo2000 (Dizajn maltera za konzervaciju – Rimska granica na Dunavu 2000 godina kasnije/Mortar Design for Conservation – Danube Roman Frontier 2000 Years After: MoDeCo2000) jeste naučnoistraživački projekat finansiran iz programa PROMIS, Fonda za nauku Republike Srbije. Trajanje projekta iznosi dve godine, od sredine 2020. do sredine 2022. godine. Nosilac projekta je Arheološki institut, koga zastupaju dr Emilija Nikolić (rukovodilac) i dr Mladen Jovičić. Arheološki institut projekat sprovodi zajedno sa Institutom za ispitivanje materijala u Beogradu (Ljiljana Miličić, Ivana Delić Nikolić) i Tehnološkim fakultetom Univerziteta u Novom Sadu (dr Snežana Vučetić, dr Jonjaua Ranogajec). Članovi istraživačkog tima su stručnjaci različitih naučnih oblasti, kako humanističkih tako i tehničko-tehnoloških i prirodnih, te je multidisciplinarni pristup svakako jedna od najvećih vrednosti projekta.

La aplicación de las TIC en la docencia es ya una realidad asentada en las leyes y programaciones educativas a nivel mundial y con ello, la Competencia Digital (CD) es una de las que mayor proyección presenta en las décadas venideras. Por ello, en el ámbito de la Geografía y la Historia se pone de manifiesto la imperiosa necesidad de aplicar esta metodología en nuestro día a día en el aula.

En este contexto, los Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG) suponen un conglomerado de datos e información que podemos utilizar a nuestro favor para que nuestro alumnado trabaje datos geográficos de manera digital.

Debemos decir que la interpretación de ortofotografías aéreas puede ser, en ocasiones, compleja. Así qué, ¿cómo podemos aplicar esta metodología en la Educación Secundaria Obligatoria y concretamente en 3º ESO (curso dedicado por completo a la disciplina geográfica)? En este pequeño documento se ejemplifica de manera sencilla un ejemplo de actividad en la que el alumnado recopilará e interpretará información a partir de un SIG, consiguiendo de esta manera nuestros dos objetivos principales: el cumplimiento de la competencia digital docente y el aprendizaje de conocimientos clave de la asignatura a través de las TIC.

A circulação de materiais cerâmicos presentes em Carthago Nova, ao longo dos anos que seguem à sua anexação pela República Romana, destacando, em especial, o século II a.C., é objeto de estudo precípuo na presente pesquisa. Com base em um recorte analítico, que tomou um determinado tipo cerâmico muito recorrente na cidade, a cerâmica campânica e suas imitações, desenvolveu-se nesta pesquisa uma análise que visa ao papel desse tipo cerâmico em Cartago Nova, como instrumento de domínio do comércio, do consumo e de identidade, bem como o adjacente panorama urbanístico da cidade, viabilizando o deslindamento dos elementos transitórios e as variações ocorridas como um todo. A partir da dinâmica desses elementos citados acima, discutem-se os processos da influência desses artefatos, como vetores e atores dentro daquela sociedade tardo-republicana provincial.

Corps du chef et gardes du corps dans l'armée romain, Collection Études et recherches sur l'occident romain-CEROR, 53. Lyon 2020 Corps du chef et gardes du corps dans l'armée romaine brings together papers delivered at the seventh instalment of the now venerable Lyon Congress on the Roman Army, which was held in October of 2018. As the title indicates the volume is focused on questions surrounding the existence of bodyguards and bodyguard units within the Roman army and their relationship to the figure of the Roman army commander. The volume contains 25 contributions organised into ten themed sections (and bookended by an introduction and conclusion) which cover a period from pre-Republican Rome right up until the Sixth century CE. The vast majority of contributions are in French with the reminder in Italian, English and German.

The Strata Diocletiana was a military road in Late Roman Period Syria. It ran from Damascus to the Euphrates by way of Palmyra. The road was fortified and received its name during the reign of Diocletian (284-305 CE), following the Roman sack and subsequent garrisoning of Palmyra after the city's failed revolt 272-273 CE. The Strata Diocletiana is only one of several attested routes between Palmyra and western Syria and one of two between Palmyra and Damascus. In this study, we seek to understand why this route was chosen for the new fortified road. We compare the location of Late Roman fortifications along the Strata Diocletiana to the modern distribution of water in the Syrian Desert and the theoretical least-cost paths between Palmyra and Damascus, and Palmyra and the fortress of Sura on the Euphrates. The argument is made that some parts of the Roman road network in the Syrian Desert were planned in order to control major water sources along the desert rim, but that the new military road between Damascus and Palmyra in the late third century CE was constructed with the aim of monitoring and controlling access to settled regions from the desert, in addition to ease and speed of communication. The conclusions have bearings not only on our understanding of the Late Roman defence and communication system, but also on nomad-settled interaction in Late Antiquity and the use of GIS methodologies in the reconstruction of ancient communication networks.

The first nationwide conference on "Experimental Archaeology" took place in Solothurn on 28/29 April 2022. This significant circumstance prompted the society “Experimental Archaeology Switzerland” (EAS) to record the diverse and valuable contents of the two days in a comprehensive publication. We were encouraged to do so at the congress itself by the varied array of cultural-historical handicraft techniques, the diversity of archaeological experiments and reconstructions, as well as the lively discussion forums surrounding the teaching of experimental archaeology.
This volume presents all the lectures, workshops, demonstrations and "work islands" that were presented at the congress entitled "Experimental Archaeology - How does it work?”
The editors of EAS were anxious not only to reproduce the reports of the speakers, but also to document the conference in pictures. This seemed all the more important to us because the organising committee used a format that is unusual for specialist conferences with the live experiments and especially with the "work islands". This book therefore shows this exciting aspect of the Solothurn conference.

Un viaggio!
Un itinerario lungo l’antica Via Flaminia al tempo dell’imperatore Marco Aurelio Antonino, passando per le due città di Carsulae e di Ocriculum, un tempo fiorenti municipi romani, ora tra le più suggestive aree archeologiche che la regione Umbria possa offrire.
Lì dove l’archeologia e la ricerca storica scoprono realtà e approfondiscono conoscenze il visitatore entra stupito e quasi travolto dall’imponenza degli edifici antichi, dalla splendida cornice naturalistica, dalla profonda memoria che filtra da quelle pietre. Quel “grande senso di dolcezza” che si prova nel contemplare le proprie “radici” pervade inevitabilmente il turista, ma questo non significa che gli si dischiuda completamente la saggezza in esse contenuta. Comprendere e figurarsi come quegli spazi venissero fruiti non è spesso immediato. Immaginare quali fossero stati gli sforzi per costruirli ancora meno. Calarsi nei panni di chi abitava quegli spazi praticamente impossibile.
Qui entra in gioco la rievocazione, ad oggi il più diretto connubio di archeologia sperimentale e di divulgazione storica. Dalle vesti delle danzatrici alle loriche, dal gladium al aulos, dal libum panis al carro-botte dei vigiles, il lavoro di ricerca e ricostruzione filologia e storica che l’Associazione Culturale Ocriculum porta avanti ormai da più di dieci anni permette di sviluppare eventi rievocativi di ambito romano tra i più accurati di tutto il panorama italiano. Non è solo la volontà di far rivivere un’antica città, ma è soprattutto l’impegno a traghettare i visitatori attraverso il mondo antico e attraverso la ricerca storica e archeologica, riducendo così la distanza che spesso, purtroppo, si crea tra lo studio di un bene culturale e la sua adeguata fruizione anche da parte di un pubblico di non addetti ai lavori.
Il presente volume si fa carico di questi obiettivi e intende trasportare il lettore nell’itinerario sopradescritto. Le curiosità offerte da entrambi i siti archeologici di Carsulae e Ocriculum non sarebbero altrettanto apprezzabili senza quello spaccato di vita quotidiana offerto dagli interventi precedenti.
L’introduzione storica iniziale fa calare il lettore all’interno della società del II secolo d.C. e un attento excursus militare illustra come cambia il mondo delle legioni romane, prefigurando entrambi quali saranno i successivi sviluppi dell’impero. Un viaggio non è tale senza l’adeguato equipaggiamento e un’attenta preparazione, come si spiega bene nel terzo contributo. Quali fossero gli spettacoli cui assistevano i romani e quali i luoghi ad essi deputati è la materia del quarto intervento “Panem et (non solo) circenses”, ma sarà solo il successivo a fornirci gustose curiosità sulla panificazione antica. Infine una carrellata davvero inaspettata delle conoscenze mediche raggiunte nel primo periodo imperiale.
Spostandoci a questo punto nei due municipii, ne conosceremo i rispettivi protagonisti della scena pubblica, che si prodigarono in atti evergetici e a cui furono attribuite benemerenze da parte della comunità. Visiteremo da vicino i principali edifici pubblici e privati, interni ed esterni alle città e avremo infine un quadro molto esaustivo delle prime testimonianze di fede cristiana che portarono alla costruzione delle due chiese iconiche di ciascun sito: SS. Cosma e Damiano di Carsulae e San Vittore di Ocriculum.
Il viaggio editoriale è appena iniziato. In esso riecheggia quello rievocativo che nonostante i suoi oltre dieci anni di vita, è ancora giovane e pronto a far rivivere ancora e ancora la storia e, soprattutto, le persone. Quei legami del passato che scavano nella nostra memoria come mani frenetiche, cercando di riaffiorare al mondo. Quei legami del passato che abitano la nostra memoria come i Mani, le anime di chi ci ha preceduto in questo mondo. Lo scopo della rievocazione e in particolare dell’Associazione Ocriculum è proprio ricucire queste antiche relazioni perché non restino “tra color che son sospesi”, ma tornino “a riveder le stelle”!

Although variations in building activity are a useful indicator of societal well-being and demographic development, historical datasets for larger regions and longer periods are still rare. Here, we present 54,045 annually precise dendrochronological felling dates from historical construction timber from across most of Europe between 1250 and 1699 CE to infer variations in building activity. We use geostatistical techniques to compare spatiotemporal dynamics in past European building activity against independent demographic, economic, social and climatic data. We show that the felling dates capture major geographical patterns of demographic trends, especially in regions with dense data coverage. A particularly strong negative association is found between grain prices and the number of felling dates. In the following article we propose to reconstruct, through the numismatic record, the image of power shaped in the mints of Segestica and Viminacium by the emperor Gallienus (253-268). After a brief historical introduction, we will first examine the two mints in question, and then go on to statistically analyse their numismatic production: the denominations used, the most frequently repeated reverse legends, the divinities most involved in numismatic propaganda, the most frequently used configuration of the emperor’s image on the reverse and finally, the most common reverse types related to the army and the triumph. We will see how much of the emperor’s propaganda effort is focused on promoting Gallienus as a battle-hardened and victorious general, his legions as loyal to his figure and the lasting peace that his campaigns bring to the Danubian limes and adjacent regions.

The author deals with the problem of communication between the living and the dead in Athenian (and more generally, Greek) Classical cemetery, observing the relief stelae as well as inscriptions. It appears to be many different voices in this polylogos coming first from the stele itself as a “speaking object” (and then from the deceased buried under it) and from a passer-by whom (s)he addresses, with the addition of the customer (relatives), the sculptor, the engraver of inscriptions and the neutral narrator. The living and the dead in Late Classical Athens are interconnected in the same way as death and life are tied to each other in Greek spiritual views.

Nel breve periodo del suo regno (69 d.C.) l’imperatore Galba tentò con le sue emissioni monetali di creare un legame sul piano ideologico con i suoi più illustri predecessori. I pri- mi esemplari di monete auree e argentee battuti a suo nome recano raffigurazioni della Libertas publica recante un pileus (il copricapo portato dagli schiavi affrancati) al fine di sottolineare la rottura politica con l’epoca di Nerone.
Solo dopo essere stato proclamato ufficialmente imperatore Galba impiegò nelle sue monete i titoli di Imperator, Augustus e Caesar. L’uso di tale titolatura deve considerarsi un richiamo a Claudio il quale li preferì al suo cognomen al fine di meglio sottolineare le sue relazioni con la gens Giulia. Altri richiami ai fasti dell’età giulio-claudia nelle emissioni di Galba sono da ricercare nel ricorso a temi quali la Libertas restituta, la Pax e la Pietas Augusti, per la cui raffigurazione viene impiegata ancora la figura di Enea.
Il repertorio figurativo di Galba viene ripreso dopo la sua uccisione anche nei primi anni del regno di Vespasiano. Con tale scelta il nuovo imperatore tentò, in assenza di legami dinastici, di porsi in un rapporto di continuità con Claudio e Augusto sottolineando le proprie affinità politiche con l’ultimo princeps considerato legittimo prima della sua ascesa al potere.

Leadership in Rome after the Flavian victory in the civil war of AD 68-9 is based on an agreement made by Vespasian, Titus, and C. Licinius Mucianus. Tacitus presents the latter in hisHistoriaeas the person in charge in the western part of the empire. This article centers on the way in which Tacitus shows Mucianus’ leadership facing different serious challenges. It turns out that Mucianus is able to meet all threats to stability by appropriate measures. In Tacitus’ account, Mucianus shows excellent situational leadership.

The use of the so-called “Harris Matrix” to express the synthesis of archaeological stratigraphical sequences was used for the first time in Portugal in 1982 at Lomba do Canho Roman camp, Arganil, by Amílcar Guerra’s proposal, based on his own work experience with Andrea Carandini.
This essay presents a short history of the uses of stratigraphy as a tool to study archaeological sites in Portugal from the late 19th century on. The author also refers to the excavation strategies used at Lomba do Canho,
Arganil, from the late 1950s until the introduction of the new strategy using Stratigraphic Units as a base element of archaeological record.

El presente trabajo tiene como objeto de estudio la relación entre dos de las principales instituciones políticas que definían el autogobierno de una metropolis en el Egipto romano: la boule y el prytanis. En primer lugar, se abordará el desarrollo de la autonomía local en las comunidades cívicas grecoegipcias desde la conquista romana hasta la reforma de Septimio Severo. En segundo lugar, a modo de ejemplificación de lo expuesto en el apartado anterior, se ofrecerá la transcripción y traducción de P. Oxy. XII, 1415, que contiene las actas de una sesión del senado local de la ciudad de Oxirrinco. En último lugar, se procederá al análisis de dicho documento, con el fin de examinar las funciones básicas del prytanis y la boule dentro del autogobierno de la metropolis.

The aim of this paper is to study the relationship between two of the main political institutions, which defined the local self-government in Roman  Egypt: the boule and the prytanis. First, the development of municipal administration from the Roman conquest to the reform of Septimius Severus will be addressed. Secondly, the transcription and translation of P. Oxy. XII, 1415, which contains the report of proceedings of the town council of Oxyrhynchus, will be analysed in order to study the basic functions of the prytanis and the boule within the self-government of the metropolis in Roman Egypt.
