The first flow bifurcation, in channels with a sudden geometry contraction, is controlled through shape optimization to delay the onset of asymmetry. First, we confirm the existence of a pitchfork type bifurcation instability, already reported in similar geometries. The global mode responsible for this bifurcation leads to asymmetric flow for Reynolds numbers beyond a critical value. Second, we propose a global shape optimization methodology to introduce small modifications in the channel geometry that lead to flows with enhanced stability. Our results include three contraction ratios C = 2, 4, and 8, where C is the ratio of upstream to downstream channel widths. The shape optimization aims at minimizing the growth rate of the unstable mode responsible for asymmetry. To capture the dynamics of modern Cyber-Physical Systems, hybrid system models are introduced to combine their continuous dynamics with the discrete ones. Unfortunately, one important negative issue can affect hybrid system models: the so-called Zeno phenomenon, which results in an infinite number of discrete transitions in a finite amount of time occurring during the model’s simulation that leads to inconsistent results. In this context, the paper investigates the use of a recently proposed numerical algorithm, based on the Infinity Computer methodology, to handle the Zeno phenomenon and evaluate it with respect to standard numerical methods by considering the hybrid system models of two exemplary Cyber-Physical Systems: the Water tanks and the Thermostat.

Spaceflight is difficult, dangerous and expensive; human spaceflight even more so. In order to mitigate some of the danger and expense, professionals in the space domain have relied, and continue to rely, on computer simulation. Simulation is used at every level including concept, design, analysis, construction, testing, training and ultimately flight. As space systems have grown more complex, new simulation technologies have been developed, adopted and applied. Distributed simulation is one those technologies. Distributed simulation provides a base technology for segmenting these complex space systems into smaller, and usually simpler, component systems or subsystems. This segmentation also supports the separation of responsibilities between participating organizations. Modelica is an innovative, equation-based, and acausal language that allows modeling complex physical systems, which are made of mechanical, electrical, and electrotechnical components, and evaluates their design through simulation techniques. Unfortunately, the increasing complexity and accuracy of such physical systems require new, more powerful, and flexible tools and techniques for evaluating important system properties and, in particular, the dependability ones such as reliability, safety, and maintainability. In this context, the paper describes some extensions of the Modelica language to support the modeling of system requirements and their relationships. Such extensions enable the requirement verification analysis through native constructs in the Modelica language. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan produk berupa perangkat pembelajaran IPA berbasis Science, Environment, Technology, and Society (SETS) dan mengetahui (1) kelayakan produk, (2) keefektifan produk untuk meningkatkan scientific literacy, serta (3) keefektifan produk untuk meningkatkan foundational knowledge peserta didik kelas VII SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Wedi Klaten. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan dengan 3 tahap prosedur pengembangan yaitu need assesment, development dan reasearch dengan desain nonequivalent control group. Perangkat pembelajaran IPA berbasis SETS terdiri atas silabus, RPP, Lembar Kegiatan Peserta Didik (LKPD), dan instrumen penilaian otentik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kelayakan produk dinyatakan sangat baik dengan rerata skor 4,59 dari rentang 0-5. The present article deals with the analysis of thermal-bending stresses in a heated thin annular sector plate with simply supported boundary condition under transient temperature distribution using Berger’s approximate methods. The sectional heat supply is on the top face of the plate whereas the bottom face is kept at zero temperature. In this study, the solution of heat conduction is obtained by the classical method. The thermal moment is derived on the basis of temperature distribution, and its stresses are obtained using thermally induce resultant moment and resultant forces. The numerical calculations are obtained for the aluminium plate in the form of an infinite series involving Bessel functions, and the results for temperature, deflection, resultant bending moments and thermal stresses have been illustrated graphically with the help of MATHEMATICA software.
