Chemically modified electrodes (CMEs) based on 2-phenyl-4-((4,6,8-trimethylazulen-1-yl)methylene)oxazol-5(4H)-one (M) were obtained by irreversible electrooxidation of M in millimolar solutions in 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAP) in acetonitrile. These CMEs were characterized by a ferrocene redox probe, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), X-ray photon spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The influence of the preparation conditions (charge and potential) was examined. The CMEs were finally used for the analysis of synthetic samples of heavy metal (HM) ions. The paper highlights the importance of potential and electropolymerization charge on the film properties, with accent on recognition of HMs, in order to identify the best conditions for their detection in water. The observed findings are relevant for further design and development of advanced materials based on azulenyl-phenyloxazolone for the analysis of HMs in water.

Rhodanine (R) is a heterocycle having complexing properties for heavy metal (HM) ions. Considering the similar electron-donating character of diethylaminobenzene and azulene, electrochemical characterization of (Z)-5-(azulen-1-ylmethylene)-2-thioxo-thiazolidin-4-one (R1) and 5-(4 diethylamino-benzylidene)-2-thioxo-thiazolidin-4-one (R2) was performed to establish their common features. Chemically modified electrodes based on R1 and R2 were compared for HM recognition. Evidence for the formation of films was provided by scanning and controlled potential electrolysis, and HM recognition experiments were performed using their films. Parallel studies for analysis of HMs by complexation in solution were performed by UV-Vis. The analogy between R1 and R2 created the premise for easier selection of compounds for certain applications. Wound infection is a major clinical challenge, impacting patient morbidity and mortality, with significant economic implications. Our research focused on how Pisonia Alba (PA) leaves, which are used to treat wounds, are used to synthesize silver nanoparticles and study their wound healing property. UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, and s electron microscope (SEM) analysis were employed to evaluate the synthesized silver nanoparticles. Using DLS and Zeta potential analysis, the size and stability of the Pisonia Alba capped silver nanoparticle were investigated. The results showed that Pisonia Alba extract stabilized silver nanoparticles are 63.88 nm in size and have a spherical shape. Although the zebrafish is a major model organism, how they determine sex is not well understood. In domesticated zebrafish, sex determination appears to be polygenic, being influenced by multiple genetic factors that may vary from strain to strain, and additionally can be influenced by environmental factors. However, the requirement of germ cells for female sex determination is well documented: animals that lack germ cells, or oocytes in particular, develop exclusively as males. Recently, it has been determined that oocytes are also required throughout the adult life of the animal to maintain the differentiated female state. How oocytes control sex differentiation and maintenance of the sexual phenotype is unknown. Neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) catalyzes single-electron reduction of quinones (Q), nitroaromatic compounds (ArNO2) and aromatic N-oxides (ArN → O), and is partly responsible for their oxidative stress-type cytotoxicity. In order to expand a limited knowledge on the enzymatic mechanisms of these processes, we aimed to disclose the specific features of nNOS in the reduction of such xenobiotics. In the absence or presence of calmodulin (CAM), the reactivity of Q and ArN → O increases with their single-electron reduction midpoint potential (E17). ArNO2 form a series with lower reactivity. The calculations according to an “outer-sphere” electron transfer model show that the binding of CAM decreases the electron transfer distance from FMNH2 to quinone by 1–2 Å. Nitrogen-based tetracyclic ortho-quinones (naphtho[1'2':4.5]imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-5,6-diones, NPDOs) and their nitro-substituted derivatives (nitro-(P)NPDOs) were obtained by condensation of substituted 2,3-dichloro-1,4-naphthoquinones with 2-amino-pyridine and -pyrimidine and nitration at an elevated temperature. The structural features of the compounds as well as their global and regional electrophilic potency were characterized by means of DFT computation. The compounds were highly reactive substrates of single- and two-electron (hydride) - transferring P-450R (CPR; EC 1.6.2.4) and NQO-1 (DTD; EC 1.6.99.2), respectively, concomitantly producing reactive oxygen species. Their catalytic efficiency defined in terms of the apparent second-order rate constant (kcat/KM (Q)) values in P-450R- and NQO-1-mediated reactions varied in the range of 3-6 × 107 M-1 s-1 and 1.6-7.4 × 108 M-1 s-1, respectively.
