This paper aims at reconsidering the subject of the relationships between Bronze Age Italian communities and eastern Mediterranean sailors during the 2nd millennium BC. In particular the historic trajectories of the Tyrrhenian regions and those of the Adriatic regions of Italy are compared and contrasted, taking into account their involvement in maritime exchange networks. 10 years ago the authors dealt with this subject. Although little time has passed since then, fresh archaeo- logical data and the renewed scholarly debate allow for revisiting the subject of Bronze Age maritime networks in the Central Mediterranean, especially as regards modes, times and places of these long-range economic and cultural interactions and the aftermaths these had on the Italian regions involved.

The paper explain the context of the discovery of the engraved cup (unicum) with marine and human representations. The cup was found in Filicudi (Aeolian Islands) in the village of Filo Braccio, where is possible to recognize the oldest phase of the culture of Capo Graziano dated to the Early Bronze Age.

Maritime connections between the western and eastern Mediterranean basin between the 17th and 15th centuries B.C. New elements for historical and archaeological research
2009, Pasiphae III
The subject of the relationships of the peninsular Italy and adjacent islands communities with the Late Bronze Age seafarers coming from the Eastern Mediterranean has been widely discussed. Important con- tributions to this discussion have come out in the most recent years too. Nevertheless in the Authors’ opinion some aspects of this subject deserve a further consideration, also bearing in mind the new archaeological discoveries mainly (but not only) made in the Adriatic side of the Italian peninsula. The paper propose a comparative view of the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic seas during the 2nd millennium BC, these seas figuratively corresponding to wide passageways, which conditioned the directions of seafar- ing trade in the Central Mediterranean.

1. An etymological study of the loanword Αἴγυπτος: it is argued that the word, which surely derives from ḥw.t-kᴈ- ptḥ, has been taken when the rules of accentuation of nominal compounds had not yet changed from the first element to the second one; the middle babylonian ḫikuptaḫ reflects the new rules, Αἴγυπτος the old ones; 2. The ostrakon DeM 952 shows that in New Kingdom Egypt was still alive the Middle Kingdom tradition of a 14 days of purification for the woman who has just given birth; 3. A study of the letter from pharaoh Amenophis II to his friend User-Satet, viceroy of Nubia: why it has been written and published.

The decades between the 13th and 12th centuries mark the collapse of the “administered” commercial relationships, mainly due to the loss of control of this network of maritime interconnections. This phenomenon, variously defined as the emergence of “freelance mariners”, “nomads of the sea” or “sea peoples” is concomitant to a series of social and technological changes. In this paper we intend to analyze some aspects of this socio-political change, especially in light of the contemporary cuneiform epigraphic sources.
