Summary The aim of the paper come from the absence of methodologies and tools for the management and the sustainable development of real property owned of various religious institutions (church, rectory, convent etc.). There is need to provide tools to determine the technical, legal and economic limits for management of church property. Special emphasis is placed on the specifics of the issue with the fact that this is not a common owner or investor, but to link the two worlds, the secular and the spiritual. It will also take into account the fact that the property generally is not an ordinary real estate, but in many cases also cultural heritage. Durante os anos 80 parte da Europa tomava consciencia da necessidade de encontrar novos rumos para a proteccao do patrimonio2 arqueologico. Estavamos numa altura em que as modificacoes da paisagem, inerentes ao desenvolvimento, se tornavam desastrosas para os vestigios arqueologicos. The Valletta Principles were adopted by
the 17th General Assembly of ICOMOS
in November 2011, after a long process of
reflection, carried out by the expert members
of CIVVIH for more than six years.
During the CIVVIH annual meeting in
Tunisia in November 2019, it was decided
that this document should be reviewed to
take into account new parameters that affect
urban planning for the conservation and
management of Historic Urban Landscapes
(HUL) such as sustainable development, the
urban landscape, urban sprawl, tourism in
historic centres, mobility, digital technology,
climate change alongside major risks, and
health or natural disasters.
After carefully analyzing the Valletta
Principles, the expert members of CIVVIH
consider that their wording and content are
still relevant; the document is a testimony
of its time, and it remains important for the
conservation of historic cities.
However, in this unprecedented context of
pandemic and climate change, it should be
supplemented to address the issue of heritage
and the evolution of our societies with regard
to risk management (health and climate
or natural disasters) by carrying out both a
retrospective and prospective review of tools
and practices.

We have analysed historical trusses based on previous building-historical researches, particularly focusing on sacral buildings, in chosen regions of Slovakia, with one of the primary goals to examine geometric concepts and proportional relationships used for their construction. The knowledge of proportional principles and relationships used in various historical sacral trusses, additionally supported by contemporary literature, was applied to a village house truss from 1774 in Vápenná, Jeseníky district of the Czech Republic.

Beatriz Coelho também idealizou e implantou o Ceib, Centro de Estudos da Imaginária Brasileira, criado em 1996 com o objetivo de estimular estudos sobre obras de arte brasileiras e portuguesas conservadas em acervos no Brasil. Resumen:El artículo analiza un proceso de patrimonialización en torno a ocupaciones prehistóricas fini-pleistocénicas en una localidad turística del Este del Uruguay. Se hace foco en los conflictos por la revalorización y conservación de un tipo de patrimonio invisibilizado por el estado nación y por los discursos hegemónicos sobre la cultura y la historia nacional, representados en este lugar por la obra arquitectónica y urbanística de Francisco Piria, símbolo de la modernización y el progreso del Uruguay del siglo XX. La Virgen de la Soledad se encuentra ubicada en el templo de San Juan de Dios en el sureño municipio de Hidalgo del Parral en el estado de Chihuahua. El proyecto para
su conservación-restauración surge a raíz de la preocupación de la comunidad ante el estado de conservación que presentaba la imagen. La relevancia del proceso radica no solo en su solidez técnica, sino en el valor histórico y social de la pieza, características que le han garantizado su permanencia en la comunidad parralense. La Virgen de la Soledad está representada en una escultura de bastidor articulada de finales del siglo XVII y se encuentra estrechamente ligada con los orígenes mineros de la ciudad, una parte fundamental de su historia e identidad.
A lo largo de los siguientes apartados se pondrá de manifiesto la importancia del vínculo que una comunidad establece con su patrimonio y cómo esta relación está estrechamente ligada al quehacer de la conservación, convirtiéndola en una disciplina
científica y, a su vez, social.

Der Beitrag möchte zeichentheoretische Überlegungen für die Frage nach dem methodischen Zugriff auf die semantische Dimension römischer
Wohnhäuser und ihrer Ausstattung fruchtbar machen. Zu diesem Zweck werden zunächst einige allgemeine Grundzüge der Semiotik skizziert und die Begrifflichkeiten definiert. In Auseinandersetzung mit verschiedenen architektursemiotischen Arbeiten nähern wir uns anschließend einer Betrachtungsweise an, die einzelne Ausstattungselemente als Zeichen innerhalb eines Kommunikationsprozesses und die römische Architektur als das zugrundeliegende Zeichensystem auffasst. Die Anwendbarkeit dieses Ansatzes wird am Beispiel zweier Einzelzeichen erprobt. Hier erweist sich, dass eine Anwendung nur vor dem Hintergrund umfangreicher archäologischer Grundlagenforschung einerseits und einer eingehenden Auseinandersetzung mit den gesellschaftlichen Diskursen andererseits sinnvoll ist.

Museums play an important role in the representation of local culture and economic life. It also acts as a great stimulus for tourism development of the region. Tribal museums across India have been playing important role in preservation of tribal culture. Many tribes of India do not have any written history. The memories are passed from one generation to other through oral traditions such as songs, folk tales, and dance forms. All these tangible and intangible aspects of tribal culture are essential for tribal identity. If the tribal community loses it, they may vanish or become mere commodities. Therefore, it is important to preserve and promote tribal culture through tribal museums. Tribal museums can very well communicate the knowledge, practices, products and their natural and social environment. The paper tries to understand the context and idea behind the establishment of tribal museum through the case study of Pune Tribal Museum that was established to present an authentic display of the tribal culture of the state of Maharashtra. The study also aimed to assess the contribution of Pune tribal museum in promotion of tourism. The study tries to present a comparative analysis of the meaning and understanding of tribal museum for tribal and non-tribal youth population visiting the museum. The study primarily aims to employ qualitative and interpretative methodology in drawing inferences and conclusion regarding the meaning, context and evaluation of tribal museum. It has come out from the study that the tribal youth visiting the museum were primarily motivated by the questions of identity and pride, while the non-tribal youth visitor had varied motivations. It can be concluded that the distinction between modern and postmodern has become very fluid in the contemporary museum. It has become very difficult to ascertain when one enters modern and exit the postmodern.

The use of structurally effective hybrid systems in masonry and wood is part of a very ancient technological experimentation which has given different results and of which traces can be found in historical documents. The diffusion of these techniques is often recognized in a systematic way in the seismic area, but the increase in the construction quality, given by the union of the two materials, allows to improve the architectures behavior not only in the case of horizontal actions but also for the vertical loads. For these reasons, the diffusion of this technical knowledge is also found in regions with low seismic risk such as Trentino-Alto Adige. In this paper some cases found in medieval fortifications of the Autonomous Province of Trento will be discussed.

This paper reports firstly on the interrelated roles of architectural practice, education and research and focuses on the unique contribution of the Cambridge School in this area. The following section presents the drawbacks derived from a research assessment exercise where architecture was no longer considered an academic subject to be developed in a research intensive university and, finally, concludes that architecture in Cambridge succeeded in spite of its problems, not in the absence of them, which suggests strongly that other European architectural schools can learn from it.

The paper presents the structural reintegration of the wood panels using compatible disperse systems based on natural and synthetic resins. Two icons from XIX th and XX th are the subject of the study, the first is named „God’s Mother The Empress” and the second „Gabriel the Archangel” by anonymous painters. The painted panels are from a private collection and painted in oil technique. The supports are made from linden wood, by multiple boards linked together with animal glue, and with two crossbeams for planarity. The wood panels have different types of degradation and deterioration (separation, cracks, fractures, flight holes, missing cellulosic material, carbonization, embrittlement etc.). The consolidation is done using nondestructive treatments (beeswax and Paraloid B72), which don’t affect the aesthetics of the icons. The study observes the behavior of various fillers and binders from the consolidation treatments.

he development of architecture has occurred with rapid changes from every socio-economical perspective in Bangladesh. In these versatile spectrums of colonial architecture, Zamindar houses were the striking subject in both of local and European concepts. The concept of Zamindar had evoked a new dimension by the ‘Permanent Settlement Act-1793’, which for the fi rst time confi rmed the ownership of land by Zamindars in Colonial Period. This paper present the discussion of the architecture adopted in Zamindar houses of Dhaka city in a particular framework of time, context and form which will help to study the development of Zamindar house and its architecture in a wider aspect of Bangladesh.

The most widespread varnish formulations used by master violin-makers of the “Italian Golden Age”, including Antonio Stradivari, were based on mixtures of siccative oils (e.g., linseed oil) and natural resins (e.g., colophony). Similar formulations are still used for the finish of contemporary instruments. Although most precious violins made by Stradivari and other Cremonese Masters are kept in museums, several instruments are still played and their finish may undergo deterioration due to contact with the players. Moreover, the decay of the traditional varnish may occur due to mechanical stress and natural aging caused by environmental agents (e.g., exposure to uncontrolled light, humidity, and temperature changes).
