Στην αρχαία ελληνική κοινωνία της κλασικής εποχής επικρατούσαν παράλληλα δύο παραδόσεις, σε σχέση με τη θεραπεία. Η παραδοσιακή θεουργική ιατρική των ιερών και η «ιπποκρατική» ιατρική με την εισαγωγή του ορθολογισμού. Η παρούσα πτυχιακή διατριβή πραγματεύεται τη σχέση του Ιπποκράτη με τους ιαματικούς θεούς της αρχαιότητας, μέσα από τα κείμενα του ιπποκρατικού "corpus" και τη βιογραφική παράδοση για τον Ιπποκράτη.
Η έρευνα διεξάγεται σε τρία κεφάλαια.
Στο πρώτο κεφάλαιο γίνεται αναφορά στους ιαματικούς θεούς της αρχαιότητας, Παιήονα, Απόλλωνα, Ασκληπιό, Υγεία, Πανάκεια. Ο πιο σημαντικός ήταν ο Ασκληπιός. Θεράπευε ασθενείς στα Ασκληπιεία, που ήταν αρχαία ιατρικά κέντρα με κοιτώνες, όπου οι ασθενείς θεραπεύονταν ενώ κοιμόντουσαν. Παρουσιάζονται τα βασικά χαρακτηριστικά ενός Ασκληπιείου και καθορίζονται οι όροι θεραπείας της παραδοσιακής θρησκευτικής ιατρικής.
Στο δεύτερο κεφάλαιο προσδιορίζονται οι όροι άσκησης της «ιπποκρατικής» ιατρικής, με την εισαγωγή του ορθολογισμού στην αναζήτηση της αιτιολογίας των ασθενειών, στη διάγνωση και τέλος στη θεραπεία.
Τέλος, στο τρίτο κεφάλαιο διερευνάται κατ΄ αρχάς κατά πόσον οι δύο αυτές παραδόσεις τέμνονταν, και στη συνέχεια οι σχέσεις του ιστορικού προσώπου του Ιπποκράτη με τους ιαματικούς θεούς της αρχαιότητας.
Σύμφωνα με τις πηγές που έχουμε στη διάθεσή μας, οι δύο παραδόσεις ήταν συμπληρωματικές και όχι ανταγωνιστικές και ο Ιπποκράτης υπήρξε περήφανος Ασκληπιάδης, απόγονος του Ασκληπιού, σε όλη του τη ζωή.

This paper presents the activities carried out in the context of the public outreach framework of the Settled and Sacred Landscapes of Cyprus (SeSaLaC) and the Unlocking the Sacred Landscapes of Cyprus (UnSaLa-CY) projects of the Archaeological Research Unit of the University of Cyprus in a former conflict zone, the Xeros River valley (Larnaca district) in Cyprus. The public outreach initiatives were born out of the long-term aim of the projects to encourage public engagement and interaction of the present-day communities in the Xeros valley with the cultural heritage of the region.

Existing econometric studies on the Gender Wage Gap (GWG) in Cyprus, which (i) net out of the raw GWG the portion that can be explained by productive characteristics, (ii) take into account possible effects from the Minimum Wage (MW) in calculating the GWG, (iii) do so, using fine occupations which correspond to the legal implementation of the MW, and (iv) are as up-to-date as existing data allow, are not available. This paper aims to fill this gap using 4-digit data from the 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018 Structure of Earnings Survey (SES) data. The unconditional GWG in the four surveys was 0.316, 0.225, 0.113 and 0.117 ln wage points respectively. In the first two surveys, netting out the Explained contribution of productive characteristics removes a substantial amount from the GWG, leaving an Unexplained GWG of 0.217 and 0.135 ln wage points. By the time of the last two surveys, which overlap with the Cyprus Crisis (2012-2016) and its effects on the labour market, no further role is left for the available explanatory variables, leaving the Unexplained component for 2014 and 2018 at 0.118 and 0.110 ln wage points respectively; the total Explained portion is not significantly different from zero in either 2014 or 2018. The high Unexplained levels of the GWG prompt the question of whether reductions in the GWG through explanatory variables have stalled, a concern raised in several international studies.

Bu makale geçmişte ve günümüzde insanlığın temel tüketim maddelerinden biri olan ekmeğin Kanuni dönemi İstanbul’undaki serüvenini incelemektedir. Ekmeğin hammaddesi olan buğdayın üretimi, tedariki, öğütülmesi ve dağıtımı için alınan önlemleri temel kaynaklardan takip eden çalışmada ayrıca Kanuni dönemi İstanbul’unda un ve ekmek ihtiyacını karşılayan değirmen ve fırınların durumu ve üretilen ekmeklerin nitelik, gramaj ve çeşitleri ele alınmaktadır. Buğday üretimi ve üretilen buğdayın çeşitli şehirlerden tedarik edilerek İstanbul’a getirilmesi, öğütülmesi, şehirdeki fırıncılara dağıtımı ile arz-talep dengesinde yaşanan bozulmalar sebebiyle yaşanan sıkıntılar ve tüm bu süreçlere ilişkin yapılan düzenlemeler araştırmanın odaklandığı konulardır. Kanuni döneminde Osmanlı başkentindeki ekmek sorununun temelde bir buğday sorunu olduğu ve bunun değirmenlerle yakın ilişkisinin bulunduğu tespit edilmektedir. İmparatorluk coğrafyasındaki buğday veriminin düşük olması ve değirmenlerin nitelikli un üretimi noktasındaki yetersizliği, bu yüksek nüfuslu şehrin iaşesinin gereği gibi karşılanmasının önündeki en önemli engel olduğu, çalışmanın temel bulgularından biridir. Nitekim buğday açısından bıçak sırtı diyebileceğimiz düzeyde gerçekleşen şehrin iaşesi, 1530 yılında ciddi bir ekmek sıkıntısının yaşanmasına neden olmuştur. Diğer yandan Kanuni döneminde üretilen fakat daha sonraki dönemlerde görülmeyen ekmek çeşitleri, Türklerin Orta Asya’daki kimi alışkanlıklarını İstanbul’a taşıdıklarını ve bu döneme kadar yaşattıklarını göstermektedir.

Στην παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή μελετήθηκαν τα πτητικά συστατικά των μελιών που προέρχονται από μελίτωμα, καθώς και οι παράγοντες που τα επηρεάζουν. Η ανάλυση των διεγμάτων πραγματοποιήθηκε με σύστημα διάταξης παγίδευσης-αέριου χρωματογράφου-φασματογράφου μάζας. Εντοπίστηκαν χαρακτηριστικοί συνδυασμοί πτητικών χημικών ενώσεων οι οποίοι μπορούν να χρησιμοποιηθούν για τη βοτανική διάκριση του πευκόμελου, ελατόμελου και μελιού βελανιδιάς. Συλλέχθηκε επίσης μελίτωμα, που παράγεται από το κοκκοειδές Marchalina hellenica, το οποίο στη συνέχεια αναλύθηκε χρωματογραφικά και προσδιορίστηκαν τα κυριότερα πτητικά του συστατικά. Παράλληλα ερευνήθηκε η επίδραση τηε γεωγραφικής προέλευσης στα πτητικά συστατικά του πευκόμελου, με αποτέλεσμα την δυνατότητα διάκρισης αυτού του είδους μελιού που παράγεται σε Κρήτη και Ρόδο. Εξετάστηκε επίσης η επίδραση της θερμικής επεξεργασίας καθώς και της αποθήκευσης στις πτητικές χημικές ενώσεις των μελιών μελιτώματος. Επιπλέον ερευνήθηκε η ύπαρξη στο μέλι μελι...

The archaeological evidence from an array of primary settlements and inland territories suggests that the response of Late Cypriot polities to the Mediterranean-wide crisis of circa 1200 BC was extremely diverse. Entire regions and their primary centres failed to survive, and were abandoned either towards the end of LC IIC or in LC IIIA. At the same time, the transformations of the socioeconomic system worked in favour of a number of coastal centres. In Kition and Paphos, which are situated on either side of the depleted valley systems of the Vasilikos, Maroni and Kouris rivers, their respective sanctuaries were enhanced with labourintensive and technologically demanding temene. Taking a long-term view and employing landscape analysis in relation to the settlement site and the catchment of Paphos, this paper attempts to reconstruct the history of a Late Cypriot gateway, which developed into the first urban landscape of southwest Cyprus in the 'Age of Transformations' and remained the political and economic centre of the region of Paphos until the end of the 4th century BC.

Abstract: In this work Sergei V. Rjabchikov has studied three Minoan texts. As a result, we have been able to clarify the Cretan metrology. Besides, the names of two Cretan port towns have been read. The author used the methods of structural and contrastive linguistics.

Аннотация: В данной работе автор изучил три минойские надписи. В результате, нам удалось уточнить критскую метрологию. Кроме того, прочитаны названия двух критских портовых городов. Автор применил методы структурной и контрастивной лингвистики.

In the first chapter I yet wrote, that I think, that I found the proof of the character of the Minoan language similar to the ti-ri-po-de of Ventris. Yet the so-called clay tablet with Minoan vessel-names were interpreted as Semitic words, belonging to the Semitic language familiy. But I found another inscription, that confirms this theory.

This article examines the Israeli vaccination campaign against COVID-19, focusing on the state's acquisition of the vaccines from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer. In December 2020, Israel signed an agreement with Pfizer to purchase enough doses to vaccinate its entire population. In the months that followed, the country became a world leader in vaccination rates. But how was Israel able to purchase large quantities of then-scarce vaccines in the first place? To answer this question, I examine reports and publications by government and civil society bodies as well as news coverage about the campaign. Drawing on insights from the sociology of the state and from science and technology studies, I argue that Israel was able to secure vaccines by using its state-power as a form of currency. Theoretically, I suggest the term “infrastructural capital” – which I define as the resources a state can provide to an external capitalist actor by virtue of its power – to explain how Israel traded with Pfizer. In the conclusion, I discuss the potential implications of this case for other cases.

Lebanon has been passing through considerable difficulties as a result of compounded economic and financial degradation. Therefore, a comprehensive adjustment program is necessary. The aim of this research is to describe different reform plans applied by countries that have undergone economic and financial crises. More particularly, it discusses nations that implemented the International Monetary Fund reform programs; the purpose, plan, requirements and policies of the program are also identified. Furthermore, this paper highlights the reasons behind the success or failure of a nation in implementing a development program to anticipate whether an agreement with the IMF will be the solution for the Lebanese case.
