Background Most of our understanding on the social behavior and genomics of bees and other social insects is centered on the Western honey bee, Apis mellifera. The genus Apis, however, is a highly derived branch comprising less than a dozen species, four of which genomically characterized. In contrast, for the equally highly eusocial, yet taxonomically and biologically more diverse Meliponini, a full genome sequence was so far available for a single Melipona species only. We present here the genome sequence of Frieseomelitta varia, a stingless bee that has, as a peculiarity, a completely sterile worker caste. Results The assembly of 243,974,526 high quality Illumina reads resulted in a predicted assembled genome size of 275 Mb composed of 2173 scaffolds. A BUSCO analysis for the 10,526 predicted genes showed that these represent 96.6% of the expected hymenopteran orthologs. Spatial Data Focusing is implemented using Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum technique with orthogonal Gold code sequences forming the orthogonal transmit signal basis. IQ resources are used to facilitate additional degree of freedom. With a four element antenna array, it is demonstrated that this scheme attains a beam-width of less than 4◦. We present an Auditory Information Seeking Principle (AISP)(gist, navigate, filter, and details-on-demand) modeled after the visual information seeking mantra [1]. The Internet has been evolving exponentially those two decades, and various types of communication systems for computer supported cooperative work (CSCW) are available throughout networks. Some of those systems provide handwriting functions, and handwritten messages are used often for authentication. In other communication systems, however, one needs information hiding. A requirement of a communication system is to provide a subliminal channel for secret communications. This paper presents some new algorithms for information hiding with a handwritten message which is encoded with vector drawing.

We study the energy-efficient configuration of multihop paths with automatic repeat request (ARQ) mechanism in wireless ad hoc networks. We adopt a cross-layer design approach and take both the quality of each radio hop and the battery capacity of each transmitting node into consideration. Under certain constraints on the maximum tolerable transmission delay and the required packet delivery ratio, we solve optimization problems to jointly schedule the transmitting power of each transmitting node and the retransmission limit over each hop. Numerical results demonstrate that the path configuration methods can either significantly reduce the average energy consumption per packet delivery or considerably extend the average lifetime of the multihop route.

Memory is one of the most fundamental mental processes. Neuroscientists study this process by using extremely diverse strategies. Two different approaches aimed at understanding learning and memory were introduced in this symposium. The first focuses on the roles played by synaptic plasticity, especially in long-term depression in the cerebellum in motor learning, and its regulatory mechanism. The second approach uses an elegant chick-quail transplantation system on defined brain regions to study how neural populations interact in development to form behaviorally important neural circuits and to elucidate neurobiological correlates of perceptual and motor predispositions.

ABSTARCT This paper reflects the issues related to the reconfigurability property that software radio needs to satisfy for implementing the software radio concept and corresponding trends in industry for reconfigurability. Even though current technology limits impose deviations from the ideal all-software-radio, the advent of high-density reconfigurable hardware (FPGAs) as well as proper system engineering and design, make the software radio concept a viable reality and the concept of Hardware/Software co-design becomes more relevant. Lastly, as reconfigurability and reconfiguration open up SWR systems to the outside world, issues like security, safety, reliability, become of extreme importance.
