Nella prima metà del Cinquecento, l’umanista Mariangelo Accursio (1489-1546) attraversò l’Europa in lungo e in largo – dal Regno di Napoli alla Germania, dalla Lituania al Portogallo – prima al seguito di principi tedeschi e della corte di Carlo V, poi come inviato della sua città natale, L’Aquila. Nel panorama internazionale degli studia humanitatis si rese benemerito come polemista e poeta neolatino, come studioso e editor princeps di testi latini, nonché per la sistematica ricerca sul campo di iscrizioni e monumenti romani in gran parte del continente. Giovandosi di abbondanti materiali inediti, i saggi qui raccolti propongono, per la prima volta, un’originale valutazione d’insieme del suo metodo di lavoro e dei risultati conseguiti; ricostruiscono la sua rete internazionale di relazioni con sovrani, principi, cardinali, banchieri, autorità cittadine, intellettuali e stampatori; indagano l’influenza che l’umanista esercitò con i suoi studi, le sue pubblicazioni, la sua abilità diplomatica.

Many of the scrolls from the Villa dei Papiri were opened through the so-called scorzatura and are consequently divided into fragments which received different inventory numbers. Working on these scrolls requires close attention to the question of the original position of the scorze. In addition to the already established methods, further elements will be analysed, which can be especially useful in cases where the loss of material during or after the opening of the scorze hinders the immediate availability of the necessary data.

Öz: Karadeniz Ereğli Müzesi’ndeki epigrafik çalışmalarımız kapsamında Zonguldak ili Gökçebey ilçesi Asartepe mevkiinden müzeye getirilen yazıtlı bir adak taşı ile karşılaştık. Ön yüzündeki yazıtından, “Meter Theon
Lykokhorites (Lykokhorion’un Ana Tanrıçası) huzurunda/nezdinde Hosios Dikaios (Aziz/Kutsal ve Adil) Aleksandros’a” adandığı anlaşılmıştır. Yüzeyinin zarar görmüş olmasından dolayı yazıtının bazı satırları ve alt
kısmı okunamaz durumdadır. Hosios Dikaios, Anadolu’da çokça belgelenmiş ve halen niteliği tartışılan bir tanrı adı ya da sıfatıdır. Burada adı geçen Aleksandros’un ise Lukianos’un (MS ca. 120-190) Sahte Peygamber Aleksandros eserinde hikayesini anlattığı, Antoninus Pius döneminde Yılan Tanrısı Glykon’u, “Yeni Asklepios” sıfatıyla kullanarak Paphlagonia’daki Abonuteikhos (Kastamonu-İnebolu) kentinde bir kehanet ve tapınım merkezi kuran Aleksandros olduğunu düşünüyoruz. Bu makalede yazıtın içeriği, Hosios Dikaios Aleksandros ve Meter Theon kültlerinin Tios/Tieion antik kentindeki varlığı ile tartışılmaktadır.

Abstract: During the epigraphic studies in the Karadeniz Ereğli Museum, we worked on a altar that was brought to the museum from Asartepe of Gökçebey District in Zonguldak. From the inscription, it was understood that the altar was dedicated to Hosios Dikaios Aleksandros, at the place of/by the side of Meter Theon Lykochorites. Due to the wear on the surface of the stone, some lines of the inscription are partially illegible. Hosios Dikaios (Saint and Righteous) is a god or epitheton of a deity, which is widely documented in Anatolia, and his identity is still debated. It made us think that Alexandros, who is mentioned here, might be the Alexandros, whose noteworthy story was narrated in the work of the writer Lucianus (ca. 120-190 AD) in his work “The False Prophet Alexander”. According to this story, he established a prophecy, and worshipping center in the period of Antoninus Pius (138-161 AD) in Paphlagonian Abonouteichus presenting his snake God Glycon as “New Asclepius”. In this article, the content of the inscription is discussed together with the presence of the cults of Hosios Dikaios Alexandros and Meter Theon in the ancient city of Tios/Tieion.

Los siete discursos de Marco Tulio Cicerón reunidos en este volumen están marcados por el exilio del orador (58-57 a. C.). Debido a las pugnas políticas que se producían en el Senado entre la oligarquía (de la que era partidario Cicerón) y la facción democrática (liderada por Julio César), los sucesos precipitaron salida del primero de Roma, tras el éxito de los movimientos para aislarlo de su más acérrimo adversario: Publio Clodio. A su vuelta a la capital, Cicerón volvió a ejercer como letrado y en sus discursos y alegatos la sombra del exilio y de la época turbulenta que estaba viviendo la ciudad está siempre presente. Los seis primeros textos los pronunció entre septiembre del 57 y mayo del 56 a. C. El último, En defensa de T. Anio Milón, del año 52, está íntimamente relacionado con los anteriores, ya que Milón fue el asesino de Clodio.

Marco Donato’s chapter “Dialoguing with Plato: Allusions, Borrowings and Exegesis in Platonic Spuria” considers in more detail two dialogues from the Appendix Platonica: the short dialogue On Virtue and the Sisyphus. Both build upon Plato’s Meno, but with notable reformulations and, at least since the end of the nineteenth century, this play of allusions has been interpreted as a sign of forgery, even if confirming the Academic origins of dubia and spuria. By inquiring into the practical and exegetical background of these reprises, Donato shows how production of school dialogues supported specific interpretations of Plato’s texts and could be used as a way to dialogue with the founder of the school through his writings.

In this paper the author reads some surviving literary and historical sources - in particular Philochorus FGrHist 328 F 119 - concerning a gift of corn sent in 445/4 BC to the Athenians by Psammetichus, a prince of Lybian descent, in the light of the cultural and trade relations between  Achaemenid Egypt and Athens in the Fifth Century BC. She also offers a new analysis of a verse from Cratinus' Thracian Women (frg. 76 K.-A.), which perhaps contains a reference not to this gift by Psammetichus, but to the golden cups that belonged to the Egyptian merchant Paapis, explicitly mentioned both in IG II.2 1383 and in a fragment from a Leucon's play (frg. 1 K.-A.).

Traditionally, from Antiquity to the modern age, women gave important contributions to practical medicine, when events such as birth, death, and illness happened at home, where they lived and worked. It may be easily supposed that women gave assistance and care to babies, elders, and sick family members, preparing food and remedies. There are various characters in Greek myths linked with assistance and pharmacology: Antigone, Ismene, Euryclea, Helen, Medea, Circe. We have documents on women that practiced medicine, especially obstetrics, in the ancient world, in Greece and in Rome, from Fenaretes, Socrates’ mother, to other women remembered only by funerary inscriptions.
However, it is well known that until the twentieth century women generally did not give contributions to written medicine. Rather, male doctors wrote on medicine, also on feminine medicine, gynecology, and obstetrics. What was the relation of ancient doctors with women? Did it change over time? In the present paper this issue is analyzed, especially the influence of feminine medicine on the Hippocratic Oath, a mysterious and fascinating text, which became the reference of medical ethics in the West, at least since the fifteenth century.

La epigrafía revela  que  el culto dionisíaco está atestiguado sin interrupción en Tracia desde el siglo IV a.C. hasta principios del siglo IV d.C., en un to-tal de  aproximadamente 150 inscripciones. Entre ellas  hay  20 decretos conmemorativos, públicos y privados, que  ofrecen información sobre las celebraciones dionisíacas y su calendario cultual. Los epígrafes se fechan  entre el siglo IV a.C. y el siglo I d.C. y abarcan un amplio espectro geográfico dentro de las fronteras del mundo tracio. El análisis  de estos documentos es funda- mental para determinar si el culto de Dioniso en estas ciudades es de tipo cívico, es decir,  reglado y controlado por la ciudad, o mistérico.

Tasavvufî düşüncede insanın özünü bulma ya da aslına rücû etme girişimleri, bu düşünce sisteminin dikey boyutunu göstermektedir. Bu boyut içerisinde özün kavrama potansiyelini idrak etmek, insan için hedef noktadır ki bu gayeyi, tasavvufun kendine has terminolojisi içerisinde yer edinen fenâ kavramında bulmak mümkündür. Tarihi süreç içerisinde yeni boyutlar kazanmasıyla statik bir yapıya sahip olmayan bu terim, ruh ve bedenden oluşmuş insanoğlunun beşeriyet vasıflarının tedrîci olarak rubûbiyyet sıfatları altında yok olmasını temsil etmektedir. Söz konusu bu süreç içerisinde, sâlikin kat etmesi gereken pek çok zorlu aşamalar ve mertebeler vardır. Burada bedensel taraftan ziyade ruhani yön ön plandadır. Amaç insanî plandan uzaklaşmak sûretiyle elest bezminde beden örtüsüne bürünmeden önceki Mutlak Varlık’a ulaşmak, başka bir ifade ile mâsivâdan kurtularak saf (pak) bir şekilde elest bezmindeki Allah’a karşı tam bir teslimiyet sürecine geri dönmektir. Bu açıdan fenâ, istenilen hedefe ulaşma noktasında köprü vazifesi görmektedir. Oldukça girift bir konu olan bu çalışmamızda temel referans kaynakları kullanmak sûretiyle özellikle mutasavvıfların görüş ve düşünceleri çerçevesinde fenâ ile bezm-i elest arasındaki ortak ve farklı yönleri; misak nazariyesinde verilen ahdin dünya hayatında unutulması sonrası ahdi hatırlama, kişinin tekrar eski vasfına dönme ve geldiği yere doğru yönelme sürecinde fenâ halinin ne denli rol oynadığı araştırılmaya çalışılacaktır.

Il coro delle Eumenidi costituisce l’esempio più eclatante di un forte e inequivocabile impatto emotivo della performance corale sul pubblico. La rappresentazione ripugnante delle Erinni crea una disposizione emozionale dell’audience al disgusto e alla paura, che costituiscono i sentimenti dominanti ad ogni loro apparizione sulla scena, distintamente percepibili sia dall’aspetto testuale, ritmico e coreutico dei canti corali, sia dalle reazioni sgomente degli altri personaggi. Il coro delle Erinni costituisce, per quasi tutta la tragedia, la morale collettiva arcaica da condannare e rifiutare in nome di un nuovo corso della giustizia. Tuttavia,
proprio in virtù di questa funzione paideutica dell’elemento corale, era strettamente necessario allo svolgimento della trama che l’identità collettiva accettasse la proposta dalla dea Atena e che le Furie si tramutassero in Eumenidi. In tal modo una nuova collettività, rappresentante paradigmatica delle istanze del singolo, può sostituirsi
a quella precedente e assumere di nuovo il ruolo di modello che le spetta,
facendosi garante del moderno tribunale per i delitti di sangue. La collettività della polis può dunque tornare a specchiarsi e a identificarsi nella collettività corale, ora in armonia con i valori cittadini.

One of the glories of the Greco-Roman classics is the opportunity that they give us to consider a great culture in its entirety; but our ability to do that depends on our ability to work comfortably with very varied fields of scholarship. The Handbook for Classical Research offers guidance to students needing to learn more about the different fields and subfields of classical research, and its methods and resources.

The book is divided into 7 parts: The Basics, Language, The Traditional Fields, The Physical Remains, The Written Word, The Classics and Related Disciplines, The Classics since Antiquity. Topics covered range from history and literature, lexicography and linguistics, epigraphy and palaeography, to archaeology and numismatics, and the study and reception of the classics.

Guidance is given not only to read, for example, an archaeological or papyrological report, but also on how to find such sources when they are relevant to research. Concentrating on "how-to" topics, the Handbook for Classical Research is a much needed resource for both teachers and students.

In this article we focus on the third chapter of George Pachymeres’ Paraphrasis of Dionysius the Areopagite’s De divinis nominibus, emphasizing the second and third paragraphs. The aim is to highlight the concept of “person” and “personality” in the context of the theological atmosphere of Eastern Christianity and, specifically, of the Dionysian tradition. Taking into account what the Byzantine thinker elaborates on Hierotheus, we shed light on the way whereby the question of values in human beings as “persons” who decide to follow a certain example is defined. This question derives from the degree of participation in the divine mystery and revelations. In any case, it is not a matter of class distinction but of different degrees of understanding divine reality, which is shaped by how divine gifts are assimilated by human “persons”.

Edebiyatta “insan dışındaki varlıklara insana ait özelliklerin verilmesi” anlamında kullanılan teşhis sanatı ve “teşhis edilen varlıkların konuşturulması” anlamında kullanılan intak sanatı, genel olarak, mecazla ilgili edebî sanatlar bağlamında değerlendirilmektedir. Bu çalışmada Klasik Türk Edebiyatında teşhis ve intak sanatlarının anlam çerçevesi ve tarafımızca yapılan tasnifi konu edilmektedir. Çalışmanın amacı, teşhis ve intak sanatlarının anlam çerçevelerini ortaya koyup bu iki sanatı muhteva özelliklerine göre tasnif etmektir. Bu çalışmada öncelikle belagat kitapları esas alınarak teşhis ve intak sanatlarının tanımı ve anlam çerçevesi belirlenmiştir. Sonrasında belirlenen tanım ve anlam çerçevesi doğrultusunda tarafımızca teşhis ve intak sanatlarına dair bir tasnif yapılmıştır. Söz konusu tasnifin belirlenmesinde kullanılan beyitler için Klasik Türk Edebiyatının farklı yüzyıl ve şairlerden örnek beyitler ortaya konulmuştur. Sonuç olarak bu çalışma vasıtasıyla Klasik Türk Edebiyatında teşhis ve intak sanatlarının anlam çerçevesi ortaya konmuş ve söz konusu edebî sanatlar muhteva özelliklerine göre sınıflandırılmıştır. Bu bağlamda çalışmanın özellikle tarafımızca yapılan tasnif bakımından Klasik Türk Edebiyat alanına katkı sağlayacağını düşünmekteyiz. Two examples of classicus with the meaning of ‘student’ (dict. 9 = 85 Vogel) and one example of classicum with the meaning of ‘social class’ (epist. 9.34 = 463 Vogel) have been recognised in Ennodius’ work. In fact, in the three cases it is a masculine noun, classicus, to be interpreted as ‘member of the high social class’ in a manner consistent with the sociopolitical use of the term as witnessed in a famous passage by Aulus Gellius (6.13). – En la obra de Ennodio se han reconocido dos ejemplos de classicus con el significado de ‘estudiante’ (dict. 9 = 85 Vogel) y uno de classicum con el significado de ‘clase social’ (epist. 9.34 = 463 Vogel). De hecho, en los tres casos se trata de un sustantivo masculino, classicus, que debe interpretarse como ‘miembro de la clase social elevada’, de forma coherente con el uso sociopolítico del término, como testimonia un famoso pasaje de Aulo Gelio (6.13).

A study was conducted on the status and seasonal occurrence of the birds in Dhaka University campus, from July, 2013 to February, 2014. During the study period, 54 species of birds belonging to 10 orders, 27 families and 47 genera were recorded. Of the recorded species of birds, 10 (19%) species were found as migrants and 44 (81%) as residents. Out of total species, 14 (26%) were identified as very common, 7 (13%) common, 10 (19%) uncommon, and 23 (43%) as rare. Of the resident species, 14 (25%) were very common residents, 26 (48%) common residents, 3 (6%) uncommon residents, 1 (2%) was rare resident and of the migrants, 7 (13%) were common winter visitors and 3 (6%) were found as uncommon winter visitors. From the study site, 28 (52%) species of passerine birds were observed and remaining 26 (48%) were non-passerines. The highest number of birds was recorded in dry period/winter season (November - February) and the lowest in wet period/monsoon (July - October).Dhaka Univ. J. Biol. ...

Seminar ini bertujuan untuk mengangkat nilai-nilai dan warisan intelektual yang terkandung dalam naskah-naskah klasik itu agar terbaca kembali dan memberikan pengetahuan bagi masyarakat luas masa kini. Terkait dengan hal di atas, topik makalah yang disajikan pada prosiding ini mencakup berbagai topik khusus dalam naskah, yaitu, topik naskah dan arsitektur (3 makalah), naskah dan pemerintahan (4 makalah), naskah dan sistem pengetahuan (10 makalah), serta naskah dan seni pertunjukan (2 makalah). Topik-topik tersebut menjadi penting untuk diketahui dalam upaya menggali akar budaya Indonesia sebagai landasan untuk kemajuan bangsa pada masa mendatang. Oleh karena itu, gambaran singkat isi masing-masing makalah tersebut akan dijelaskan di bawah ini. Topik tentang naskah dan arsitektur ditulis oleh Ricky Purbaya, Rizki Dwika Aprilian, dan Savitri Putri Ramadina. Purbaya membahas preservasi lanskap historis melalui identifikasi elemen lanskap pada naskah I La Galigo. Menurut Purbaya, lanskap merupakan bagian dari kehidupan keseharian masyarakat dan menjadi latar dari berbagai adegan dalam epos I La Galigo. Elemen lanskap seperti tumbuhan, gunung, sungai, hutan, dan lautan menjadi identitas yang dibubuhkan pada naskah I La Galigo. Makna elamen lanskap pada naskah I La Galigo menjadi penting agar masyarakat dapat menjaga kelestarian alam dan ekosistem, mengelola sumber daya alam dengan lebih bijak, dan dapat mewariskan keberkahan dari alam kepada generasi berikutnya. Topik Sengkalan: tradisi pembubuhan titimangsa pada objek arsitektur di Jawa dari masa ke masa dibahas oleh Aprilian. Menurut Aprilian, melalui sistem simbol dan penafsiran yang dipakai pada sengkalan, gambaran situasi dan konteks zaman yang terdapat pada objek arsitektur di Jawa dari masa ke masa dapat dimaknai secara utuh. Ramadina membahas gaya arsitektur pada ilustrasi naskah Sajarah Banten. Ramadina menunjukkan bentuk visual bangunan yang ada pada naskah Sajarah Banten memiliki kecenderungan tradisi Jawa dengan atap limasan dan joglo. Meskipun demikian, terdapat beberapa ilustrasi dengan gaya visual arsitektur vernakular Banten yang berbeda dari pengaruh budaya Jawa pada umumnya. Topik naskah dan arsitektur ini membawa kita pada pemahaman bahwa fungsi elemen arsitektur yang ada pada naskah klasik tidak hanya bersifat teknik tetapi juga memiliki fungsi budaya dan sosial yang mengingatkan kita untuk menjaga kearifan lokal. Peran naskah klasik dalam pengkajian ilmu pertahanan dan pemerintahan menjadi salah satu topik yang menarik yang disajikan pada seminar ini. Terdapat empat makalah yang membahas tentang hal ini. Topik tentang Inskripsi dalam "Baju Pelias": Jejak Spiritualitas dan Politik Arab Hadrami dalam Kerajaan Lingga-Riau (1787-1913M) ditulis oleh Muhammad Tarobin. Baju pelias diduga digunakan ketika berperang. Baju ini berfungsi seperti "rompi antipeluru" atau "baju zirah". Keunikan baju ini bukan karena bentuk atau bahannya. Alih-alih terbuat dari baja atau besi, baju pelias hanya terbuat dari kain berwarna putih. Selain itu, baju pelias tersebut juga berisi inskripsi berupa kutipan ayat-ayat Alquran, doa-doa, madah dan tawasul. Indah Puspita Rukmi membahas pentingnya peran naskah klasik dalam pengkajian ilmu pertahanan. Rukmi menemukan 22 manuskrip dengan kata kunci perang dan membahas
