САЖЕТАК: Банат је још од најранијих времена био насељен српским и румунским становништвом, које је до краја XVIII века имало одређену етничку границу – Срби су насељавали, већином, западни (низијски) а Румуни источни (планински) део Баната. Већих нетрпељивости између двају народа није било. Миграције народа биле су сталне, појачане повременим ратовима и болестима. Једна таква, већа миграција захватила је српски народ у Банату, у време Аустро-турског рата 1737–1739. године, када је у Банат мигрирао део становништва из Србије, која се поново нашла под турском влашћу после кратке аустријске управе (1718–1739). Међу избеглим становништвом из Србије било је и свештенство манастира Винче, које се настанило у банатском, српском, православном манастиру Бездину.


MIGRATION OF SERBIAN POPULATION IN BANAT DURING
THE AUSTRO-TURKISH WAR 1737–1739
SUMMARY: From the earliest times, Banat was inhabited by both Serbian and Romanian population. By the end of the 18th century there had even been a certain ethnic border, since the Serbs inhabited western (plain) part, whilst the Romanian lived in the Eastern (mountainous) Banat. There were not larger intolerance between them. The migrations were constant, intensified by occasional wars and diseases. One larger-scale migration occurred at the time of the Austro-Turkish war in 1737-1739, when Serbs from Serbia partially migrated to Banat. At that time, after a brief period of Austrian governance (1718-1739), Serbia once again fell under the Turkish rule. Among the Serbian refugees, the monks from the monastery of Vinča came to Banat, finding new home in the Serbian Orthodox monastery of Bezdin in Banat.

Summary
At the end of the World War 1914–1918 the political and the administrative situation of Banat as a region was extremely complex, considering that both Serbia and Romania manifested their claim in taking over this former Austro-Hungarian territory. On top of that, the Hungarians and Germans in the region, not insignificant by numbers, have expressed their wish to remain in the newly formed Hungarian state or have opted for the proclamation of the independent Banat Republic. In this general context, after the Military Convention that took place on November 13th, 1918 in Belgrade, the army of the Kingdom of Serbia, as a winner of the Great War and a representative of the Entente Powers occupied Banat. The situation during the provisorium in the Romanian part of Banat, especially in the rural areas, when the Serbian army was present in the territory, has not been thoroughly studied so far and is therefore not very well known in the current historiography. The National Banat Museum owns in its collections a certain documentary source which provides a relative image of those times, namely the years 1918–1919. In 1934 a certain research was undertaken, based on questionnaires. The obtained results are various, subjective and, for sure, mostly approximate, given based on memories and stories after two decades from those events. Even so, they offer a certain image on the situation between 1918–1919, as well as on those who have asked for the questionnaire and those who have written it. In the article the questionnaire is reproduced in the original and also translated in Serbian.

GERMAN Temeschwar, das kleine Wien des Banats
Am Anfang des 18. Jahrhunderts wanderten Deutsche in die Grenzregionen des Banats ein. Um die Jahrhundertwende pflegen diese ‚Donauschwaben‘, besonders SchriftstellerInnen, eine privilegierte Verbindung mit Wien. Diese Konzentration auf Wien hat ihren Grund vor allem in der Magyarisierung innerhalb der ungarischen Gebiete der Habsburgermonarchie (nach dem Ausgleich von 1867), durch die die deutsche Bevölkerung des Banats sich gezwungen fühlt, sich als ethnische Minderheit zu definieren. SchriftstellerInnen wie Adam Müller-Guttenbrunn, Franz-Xaver Kappus oder Eugenie Della Grazie gehen nach Wien und machen dort Karriere, wobei sie in Wien gleichzeitig als ‚Vertreter’ einer regionalistischen, banatischen Literatur und auch einer wienerischen, kosmopolitischen Literatur wahrgenommen werden. Diese zweifache Ästhetik erklärt sich insbesondere durch die starke multikulturelle Tradition der banatischen Bevölkerung und durch das prickelnde intellektuelle und journalistische Leben in Timişoara in dieser Zeit.

Au début du XVIIIe siècle, le Banat a vu l’installation de Souabes dans ces confins. Autour de 1900, ces Allemands du Banat, et particulièrement les écrivains, entretiennent un lien privilégié avec Vienne. Cette focalisation est notamment due à la magyarisation forcée (après le Compromis de 1867), qui pousse la population allemande du Banat à se définir ethniquement comme minorité. Des écrivains comme Adam Müller-Guttenbrunn, Franz-Xaver Kappus ou Eugenie Della Grazie partent faire carrière à Vienne, et se font à la fois les chantres d’une littérature régionaliste, banataise, et d’une littérature plus viennoise et cosmopolite. Cette esthétique bicéphale s’explique notamment par la forte tradition multiculturelle de la population banataise et la vie intellectuelle et journalistique effervescente de Timişoara à cette époque.

L’histoire des Banatais de la Roque-sur-Pernes a fait couler beaucoup d’encre depuis leur arrivée dans le Vaucluse au cours des années 1950. Nous connaissons bien, aujourd’hui, le parcours de ce petit groupe amené à fuir l’Europe centrale et à rallier la France d’après-guerre. Il en est de même des circonstances politiques qui ont conduit un certain nombre d’habitants du Banat roumain et yougoslave à revendiquer des origines françaises dans la première moitié du xxe siècle. Nous restons cependant encore prisonniers d’un récit mythifié des origines de cette population, quand il s’agit de remonter jusqu’au xviiie siècle. Les colons lorrains, alsaciens et luxembourgeois, recrutés par des agents de l’empereur pour peupler les confins orientaux de la Monarchie habsbourgeoise, peuvent-ils vraiment être qualifiés de « Français » ? Bien que certains d’entre eux soient originaires de territoires placés – très récemment – sous la souveraineté du roi de France, tous sont considérés comme des sujets impériaux. Seule la pratique de la langue française par une partie de ces migrants justifie parfois leur identification en tant que « Français ». Une telle manifestation de l’ethnicité reste toutefois limitée à quelques cas bien précis : l’écriture de suppliques et le choix d’un prêtre maîtrisant la langue des fidèles dans les paroisses francophones. De ce fait, toute tentative visant à estimer le poids démographique des « Français » dans cette société d’Ancien Régime est vouée à l’échec. Notre obsession pour le comptage ethnique n’est pas partagée par les contemporains, y compris par les promoteurs des outils statistiques. Les conditions d’accueil et les stéréotypes diffusés à l’époque ne distinguent finalement en rien les colons français du Banat des autres colons venus du Saint-Empire au xviiie siècle. Ils partagent pour cette raison la même histoire politique au siècle suivant, celui de l’émergence du nationalisme des « Souabes du Danube ».

A note about the death of painter Ștefan Tenețchi from Arad, aged 104, was identified in the dead register for 1793-1811, belonging to the Orthodox parish of Abrud; he died on 15 August 1798 and was buried in the cemetery nearby the church whose patron saint is "Pentecost", two days later, in 17 August.
Taking into consideration the venerable age that the painter must have had, even if the number proposed by the priest from Abrud is exaggerated, and the presence of painter Simion Silaghi-Sălăgeanu in Abrud, we assumed that the funerals were organised by the latter, and that the two artists had a direct relation, evidenced by increased Baroque influences in the style of Simion Silaghi-Sălăgeanu.
Similarly, it was corrected attribution to Ștefan Tenețchi of the painting of the iconostasis from Certege, the locality in connection with which was known until now the last information about the painter. Because the iconostasis was signed by Vasile Zboroschi in 1752, to Ștefan Tenețchi could only be attributed the painting of the wooden church "Saint George" from Certege, monument disappeared in the first half of the 19th century, when it was replaced with the actual building.

Subject of thethesis is industrial heritage and its reuse. Emphasis has been put on industrial objects which have lost their function and now have certain historical, social and architectural value. First step was investigating the place and meaning of industrial heritage in cities, and than the current trends in its redevelopment and influence on the city were researched and presented through case studies. Problems of industrial heritage in Serbia were discussed through the example of Pancevo, one of the first and biggest industrial cities in the region, which has a lot of potential for re-use of its derelict industrial objects. After researching the current policy and practice in the redevelopment of industrial heritage, the aim was to investigate in which way and to what extent can good examples from the international practice be applied to Pancevo. Connecting the international practice with local specialties enabled the checking of the starting hypothesis – that conservation and re-use of industrial heritage in cities can contribute to local identity and urban regeneration and that redevelopment of industrial heritage in Pancevo can affect positively regeneration and development of the city. Results of the research are given through set of recommendations for dealing with industrial heritage in Pancevo, shown through four main themes: 1) development of cultural activities in former industrial objects, 2) industrial heritage as a tool for improving the ecological image of the city, 3) industrial heritage as a potential for development of tourism, and 4) promotion of heritage as a potential for economic development.

The First World War in the Memoirs of the Romanians in Banat and of the Transylvanian Saxons As fundamental sources for the cultural history of World War I, memoirs have long represented a topic of great interest to researchers, given the capacity of such writings to retrieve both individual and collective destinies and mentalities from the mists of time. In the Romanian space, in particular, the importance of the genre also stems from the fact that the beginnings of the historiography of the Great War are to be found in memoirs. This study presents a synthetic overview of an important part of the Great War memoirs of the Romanians in Banat and the Transylvanian Saxons. The sources reviewed include longer or shorter published texts, as well as unpublished material which has been identified in different collection of documents preserved in Romania and in Germany.

Banat’s historical geography was not yet written. Each new source made available is a true treasure. In this situation are the ten district maps done for the region between 1718–'25. In this study I try to analyze the map done in 1720 for the district of Timișoara and to pinpoint the new information made available. The map helps us to detect an urban-demographic catastrophe in the area immediately after the Habsburg conquest (1716). Also, the district maps will correct the historiographical information on the Karolinische Ansiedlung (1717–'40).

This bio-bibliographical dictionary of the "völkisch" and nationalsocialist personalities of the Germans of South-East Europe  is an encyclopedia containing bio-bibliographical data of scientists, men of letters, journalists and politicians of German populist (völkisch) and nationalsocialist  orientation within the then German "Reich" and within the so called "Volksgruppen" in southeastern Europe (Slovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Romania) until 1945 ans beyond.

L'intervalle de temps compris entre la seconde moitié du XIX e siècle et le début du XX e siècle a été une période de l'histoire de l'Europe occidentale marquée par plusieurs changements socio-économiques, comme l'industrialisation, l'expansion urbaine, ou le développement de la division du travail. Tout ça a conduit au lancement d'un mouvement progressif de modernisation non seulement sur le plan technologique, mais aussi dans les mentalités individuelles et collectives, ainsi que dans les visions de la vie. Un tel changement de perception s'est également produit dans le domaine de la féminité et du changement de statut et d'équilibre des forces entre hommes et femmes, annonçant une nouvelle étape d'évolution culturelle et sociale dans l'histoire de l'Europe. Pendant cette période les femmes ont rejeté les notions conventionnelles de féminité précédemment acceptées et elles ont transcendé le territoire de la maternité et de la vie domestique, acquérir ainsi leur indépendance financière et sociale. Cela a marqué l'avancement des femmes modernes dans la sphère publique et l'adoption de formes plus libres d'expression de leur propre identité. Ainsi, de nombreuses femmes ont réussi à faire carrière dans les services publics, dans l'enseignement ou dans les transports. Bien que préfiguré depuis la seconde moitié du XIX e siècle, le début du XX e siècle imposera un concept artistique beaucoup plus progressif de l'idéal féminin, contrairement à l'art du début du XIX e siècle, qui illustrait la notion de féminité idéalisée et servile. On va gagner plus en plus de terrain l'idée que, grace d'une part, à leur qualités innées en ce qui concerne les questions sociales et d'autre part, grâce à l'éducation reçue des mères, les femmes sont plus capables dans la société que les hommes qui ont une éducation plus orientée vers la sphère professionnelle qui ne leur fournit pas suffisamment d'orientation et de connaissances intuitives. En conséquence, il était indiqué aux hommes de faire appel au jugement féminin concernant la vie sociale. Au Banat et en Transylvanie, provinces qui, dans
les dernières décennies du XXe siècle et au début du siècle suivant faisaient partie de l'Empire austro-hongrois, ainsi que dans le reste de l'Europe, bien que les normes sociales continuent de placer les femmes dans un rôle d'inégalité avec les hommes, le modèle de la nouvelle femme libérée de toute contrainte, qui a surgi pendant cette période, a gagné une victoire decisive sur le vieux état d'innocente plénitude et d'asservissement docile.

"Um die nationale Aneignung und internationale Vermarktung der Insel Ada-Kaleh geht es in der Studie des aus Luxemburg stammenden Historikers Philippe Henri Blasen, Doktorand an der Universität Klausenburg. Im Mittelpunkt steht Mustafa Bego, der zum einen als türkischer Nargileh-Raucher Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts weltweite Bekanntheit erlangte, zumal sein Konterfei auf unzähligen Ansichtskarten über Ada-Kaleh, Alt-Orschowa und die Donauengen (die ersten wurden von dem Alt-Orschowaer Fotografen Geza Hutterer geschaffen) als Bildmotiv benutzt wurde. Zum anderen avancierte er um die gleiche Zeit publizistisch zum ungarischen Nationalhelden, da er im August 1849 den geschlagenen ungarischen Revolutionär und Ex-Reichsverweser Ludwig Kossuth mit seinem Boot über die Donau gesetzt hatte. Blasen legt dar, wie es zur ephemeren Mediatisierung Begos im Zuge des 1894 beginnenden staatlichen Kossuth-Kults kam." (Walter Tonţa)

Theses of the PhD-Dissertation of Ágnes Ivett Oszkó. The primary aim of my dissertation written about the architecture of Leopold Baumhorn was to present the typical characteristics of the genre of synagogue architecture within his oeuvre. During my research I examined each building in itself as well as with reference to Hungarian architecture of the age, on the basis of primary sources, further contemporary documents and by going over the premises. My analyses also contained Baumhorn’s secular works, since their motifs can be connected to the style of the synagogues. In my thesis the twenty-six synagogue buildings planned during his creative years of four and a half decades are classified according to the change in space and form as well as in the architect’s motifs and approach.

Mittelalterliche Schwerter und Sabel in Siebenburgen und im Banat. (9.-14. Jh).

Der Mensch war zur Zeit des Mittelalters in größerem Maße an seine Waffen gebunden als dieses heute der Fall ist, sein Verhältnis zu diesen Gegenständen war ein betont persönliches und subjektives. Dieser Stand der Dinge läßt sich jedoch anhand der damals herrschenden geschichtlichen Gegebenheiten sowie durch das aus früheren Zeiten stammende geistige Erbe erklären.
Im christlichen Mittelalter wurden mehrere Bräuche, die mit dem Waffenkultus zusammenhingen, in leicht abgewandelter Form beibehalten, wobei man einige davon in ein "christliches Gewand gehüllt" hatte. Die sporadische Beigabe von Waffen mit offensichtlich ritueller Absicht ist archäologisch bewiesen worden; die runischen Inschriften magischen Charakters wurden in christlicher Zeit durch Inschriften ersetzt, die zwar einen christlichen Gehalt aufwiesen, aber die gleiche Bedeutung wie die Runen innehatten: Sie sollten die Gottheit zum Schutz der Waffe aufrufen. Mehr noch, durch die Kreuzform des mittelalterlichen Schwertes wurde letzteres zu einem Gegenstand, den man beim Schwurablegen heranzog; auch der Schlag mit dem Schwert zum Zeichen der Aufnahme in den Ritterstand, das Küssen des Stichblattes, das Berühren der Schultern mit der Klinge - dies alles trug dazu bei, daß diese Waffe zum Symbol der genannten privilegierten Gesellschaftsschicht wurde. Durch das Zusammenführen des Schwertsymbols mit dem des Ritterranges und des Kreuzes, wurde eine weitere privilegierte Gesellschaftsschicht des Mittelalters - jene der Kreuzritter - gekennzeichnet; daraus entwickelte sich der Gedanke eines Heeres Christi und der geistlichen Ritterorden. Im Mittelalter wurde das Schwert, neben der Krone, zu einem bedeutenden Symbol mehrerer europäischer Königshäuser; ein Beweis dafür sind die in den Krönungsschätzen verwahrten Zeremonieschwerter, die einen hohen symbolischen und geistigen Gehalt verkörpern, sowie die Darstellungen derartiger Stücke in der bildenden Kunst. Das Schwertsymbol trat jedoch auf allen Ebenen des mittelalterlichen Alltags in Erscheinung: als Zeichen der politischen oder juristischen Macht, bis hin zu den Schwerttänzen, die ein Teil des Brauchtums der Zünfte und der Bauerngemeinschaften waren.

Die mittelalterlichen, in das 9. bis 14. Jahrhundert datierten Schwerter, die im Raum Siebenbürgen entdeckt wurden und hier erhalten geblieben sind, können in großen Zügen in die Entwicklung dieser Waffenkategorie in Europa eingegliedert werden.
Die bereits für den Großteil Europas erarbeiteten Sachkriterien wurden an dem siebenbürgischen Material angewandt, um eine möglichst vollständige und genaue typologische und chronologische Einordnung durchführen zu können. Um diesem Zweck gerecht zu werden, haben wir die Schwerter anhand ihrer Einzelteile untersucht, wobei das Hauptkriterium jenes der Funktionalität ist, die sich aus der Kombination dieser Einzelteile ergibt.
Eine erste Einteilung der Schwerter nach funktionellen Kriterien kann nach den Eigenschaften der Klinge, dem Hauptelement dieser Waffen, vorgenommen werden; je nach ihrer Klinge unterscheidet man zwischen Schwertern, die als "Hiebwaffe", "Stichwaffe" oder als "Hieb- und Stichwaffe" dienen sollten.
Aufgrund der Griffe (Gefäße), die aus demselben Metallstück wie die Klinge geschmiedet sind, können die Schwerter, je nach ihrer Länge und implizite der Funktionalität ihrer Einzelteile, in solche eingeteilt werden, deren Griffe "für eine Hand (od. einhändige Betätigung)", "für eineinhalb Hände (od. eineinhalbhändige Betätigung)" und für "zwei Hände (od. zweihändige Betätigung)" vorgesehen sind.
Aus der Funktionalität des Knaufs, der Art und Weise wie die Faust den Griff anpackt, um den Schwerpunkt der Waffe in bezug auf das Klingengewicht wirksam zu verlagern, erfolgt die Einteilung in "leichte" und "massive" Knäufe.
Die Parierstangen können desgleichen nach ihrer Funktionalität eingeteilt werden, u.zw. in: "kurze" Parierstangen, die das Abgleiten der Faust in Richtung der Schneiden verhindern, sowie in "lange" Parierstangen, die die Faust zusätzlich vor den gegnerischen Angriffen schützen sollten.
Nachdem die genannten Elemente und ihre Kombinationsweise an dem siebenbürgischen Material des 9. bis 11. Jahrhunderts untersucht wurden, konnten zwei große Gruppen von Schwertern festgelegt werden: Gruppe A: frühmittelalterliche Schwerter (Ende des 8. Jhs. bis Mitte des 11. Jhs.) sowie Gruppe B: Schwerter des Hochmittelalters (Mitte des 11. Jhs. bis Ende des 14. Jhs.).
Aufgrund dieser ersten, an die Funktionalität gebundenen Einteilungen wird im folgenden die Entwicklung (Form und Chronologie) der einzelnen Teile des Schwertes aufgezeigt.
Die Klingen sind in 9 "Kategorien", die Griffe (Gefäße) in 3 "Dimensionen", die Parierstangen in 8 "Varianten" und die Knäufe in 12 "Formen" eingeteilt worden.

Was die Kampfausrüstungen anbelangt, waren in Siebenbürgen zur Zeit des Frühmittelalters die gleichen Formen wie im restlichen Europa vertreten, die beständig, gemäß den auf diesem Kontinent bestehenden mittelalterlichen militärischen Strukturen, angepaßt werden mußten.
Die mittelalterlichen Schwerter des 9.-14. Jahrhunderts bildeten dabei keine Ausnahme, sie lassen sich in den allgemeinen Strom der europäischen Entwicklung eingliedern, wobei die zonalen Eigenheiten minimal sind. Wie oben bereits erwähnt, waren die morphologischen Merkmale der Schwerter sowohl von der Entwicklung der Schutzausrüstung des potentiellen Feindes als auch von der Anpassungsfähigkeit an die Kampfweise desselben abhängig. Diesbezüglich machten sich im 9. bis 14. Jahrhundert in Siebenbürgen gewaltige Einflüsse aus Mittel- und Westeuropa und in geringerem Maße aus Osteuropa und dem Balkan bemerkbar - ein Umstand, der durch die in jener Zeit herrschenden geschichtlichen und militärischen Ereignisse zu erklären ist.
Im Falle der Schwerter ist im Raum des Karpatenbeckens die gesamte europäische typologische Vielfalt vertreten, es treten allerdings in verschiedenen Zeitabschnitten einige Unterschiede auf. Die ins 8. bis 9. Jahrhundert datierten Stücke sind selten, während jene Exemplare, die den späteren Zeitabschnitten, dem 12.-14. Jahrhundert zuzuordnen sind, zahlreicher auftreten. Außerdem muß hinzugefügt werden, daß die Schwerter des abendländischen Typus im Vergleich zu jenen byzantinischer Art (die übrigens im gesamten mittel- und südosteuropäischen Raum selten sind) überwiegen.

Im 13. Jahrhundert kam es zur ersten "militärischen Niederlage" großen Ausmaßes, den die schwere Reiterei im Kampf gegen die einfallenden Mongolenhorden erlitt; da letztere, die sich der äußerst leicht zu manövrierenden, leichten Reiterei bedienten, nur über eine verhältnismäßig kurze Zeitspanne hinweg Mitteleuropa beherrschten, führte dieses Ereignis zu keinen Veränderungen in der Konfiguration der in Siebenbürgen benutzten Kampfausstattung, so wie dies in Rußland (durch Anpassen an die leichte Reiterei des Feindes) geschehen war. Weder das 14. Jahrhundert noch die Türkengefahr oder die vernichtende Niederlage der schweren Reiterei in Nikopole hatte eine radikale Veränderung in der Beschaffenheit der Bewaffnung in Siebenbürgen zur Folge; die Schwerter entwickelten sich zu immer größeren und schwereren Formen, die den Plattenrüstungen, die auch im darauffolgenden Jahrhundert vorherrschten, angepaßt waren.
Dem Säbel, als Waffe der leichten Reiterei, war im Siebenbürgen des Mittelalters keine "militärische Laufbahn" beschieden. Er wurde nur für kurze Zeit, während jener der ersten landnehmenden Madjaren benutzt und wird zeitlich in die erste Hälfte des 10. Jahrhunderts angesiedelt. Aus diesem Grund sind die wenigen Stücke dieser Art in den Gräbern der genannten Bevölkerung zu finden, genauer gesagt in jenen aus der Zeit ihrer ersten Wanderwelle, die archäologisch - nach den frühesten, in der Stadt am Someş (in der Zápolya / Dostoievski Straße) zutage getretenen Funden (aus den Jahren 1911 und später 1941-1942) - als "Cluj / Klausenburger Gruppe" bezeichnet wurden. Dieser Horizont weist noch starke Einflüsse der Steppenkulturen auf, u.zw. durch Beigabe von Waffen und Teilen von Pferdekörpern in Gräbern. Die wenigen Schwerter, die in Anlagen wie Gâmbaş, Arad-Ceala oder dem bereits erwähnten Gräberfeld in Cluj / Klausenburg entdeckt wurden, zu denen einige Stücke unbestimmter Herkunft hinzugezählt werden müssen, erlauben das Aufstellen einer eigenen Typologie nicht, sondern lassen eventuelle Vergleiche mit den in West-, Mittel- und Osteuropa erarbeiteten, bereits allgemein anerkannten Typologien zu.

The paper explores the ways religious grassroots actors in the borderlands contribute to the new understanding of cross border regions and religious groups in the space between the Serbian and Romanian Banat from the perspective of the anthropology of borders. The border region included in this paper was the place of interreligious and interethnic encounter, where religions and languages mixed and there was a continuous interaction between Orthodox Christians, Catholics and Protestants. By studying the region that had strong cultural, historical and religious connections, the aim is to provide new insights on the borders and religious groups that are understudied. This article explores the "liminal" character of religious identities, development of renewal movements and crossing symbolic boundaries with the examples of the "home-grown" religious movement of the Lord' s Army (Rom. Oastea Domnului) emerged in the first decades of the 20th century.

This paper aims to shed light on the origins of the Banathian coat of arms. Thus it starts in the Middle Ages, analyzing the first known symbols of the Banate of Severin – a cross used by ban Nicholas Redwitz and the princes of the Dănești Dynasty and the lion used by princes such as Mircea the Elder and Peter the Earring, who also ruled the Banate of Severin, a lion which we will again encounter in the 19th and 20th centuries and which, as explained by the heraldic artist of Greater Romania, is of Cuman origin. Apart from an invented coat of arms that only appears once in the 19th century, Banat had one other important symbol – the Forforosa Gate –, as seen on the arms of the Banate of Timișoara used in the 18th century, when the banate was
ruled by Austria.
