Τα γεωθερμικά νερά (T>29°C) της περιοχής Θερμοπηγής-Σιδηροκάστρου είναι Na(Ca)-HCΟ3 ενώ τα ψυχρά νερά Ca(Mg)-HCΟ3. Νερά χαμηλότερης θερμοκρασίας έχουν χημισμό παρόμοιο με τα γεωθερμικά. Τα γεωθερμικά νερά είναι εμπλουτισμένα σε SΟ42- και σε F- ενώ το SiΟ2 κυμαίνεται 28-75 mg/l. To Ca2+ φαίνεται να συνδέεται με τα μάρμαρα και με τους τραβερτίνες. Δεν παρατηρείται καμιά σχέση μεταξύ των διαφόρων συστατικών με τη θερμοκρασία. Τα γεωθερμικά νερά περιέχουν CO2 και είναι ελαφρώς κορεσμένα ως προς ασβεστίτη. Από την εφαρμογή των χημικών γεωθερμομέτρων εκτιμάται ότι η θερμοκρασία των ρευστών στο βάθος είναι της τάξης των 100°C.

- The geothermal waters (T>29°C) in the Thermopigi-Sidirokastro area are classified in Na(Ca)-HCO3 type and the cold waters in Ca(Mg)-HC03 type. The lower temperature waters have a similar chemical type with the geothermal ones. The geothermal waters have high concentrations in SO42- and F- ions. The SiO2 contents range from 28 to 75 mg/l. The presence of Ca2+ seems to be related with the marbles and travertines. There is no relationship between components and temperature. The geothermal waters contain CO2 and they are slightly saturated in calcite. By using chemical geothermometers it is found that the deep temperature is estimated in 100°C.

Falerio Picenus (now Piane di Falerone) was a rather important town in Antiquity, as we can presume
from the ancient sources, from the communication routes that crossed it, and from the remains of the
ancient monuments still preserved. A theatre, an amphitheatre, monumental cisterns and tombs were
discovered, but all of them were stripped of their decorations during Late Antiquity and Middle Ages.
This paper presents a three-dimensional reconstruction of the city’s theatre, based on a new survey of
the structures using a long-range 3D laser scanner, combined and integrated with photogrammetry and
direct survey. The model is supposed to serve not only as a show case of the original shape of the public
building, but also as a real research tool.

Nel corso dei biennio 2017-2018 la Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per il Comune di Venezia e Laguna ha disposto una serie di attività di tutela, scavo e ricerca connesse alla realizzazione di un cavidotto subacqueo da parte di Terna S.p.a. nella laguna settentrionale di Venezia. Le indagini archeologiche subacquee, le analisi dei materiali e l'inquadramento dei siti di età pre-romana e romana documentati nel corso dei lavori hanno consentito di ampliare le conoscenze in merito al popolamento lagunare in età antica.

During years 2017-2018 the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per il Comune di Venezia e Laguna ordered a series of protection, excavation and investigation activities connected to the construction of an underwater power line by Terna S.p.a. in the northern lagoon of Venice. Underwater archaeological investigations, finds analyses and the framing of the pre-Roman and Roman sites documented in the course of the work have enhanced our knowledge of the lagoon population in ancient times.

The Aristoteles Latinus project has a long history that goes back nearly a century. The project was founded in 1930 by the Union Académique Internationale (UAI), at a time when several scholars expressed their interest in and recognized the importance of the Latin translations of Aristotle in the Middle Ages. Soon, the founders realized that there was a lot of work ahead of them: first, all preserved manuscripts with Latin Aristotelian texts needed to be inventoried and described, and second, all translations needed to be critically edited. These Latin translations cover a period of roughly 800 years, starting with Boethius’ translations and ending with the so- called Translatio Durandi of the Oeconomica in 1295, but the majority of the translations are from the 12th and 13th century.
When Lorenzo Minio-Paluello left as director of Aristoteles Latinus in 1973, it was decided to move the seat of the project from Oxford to Leuven, where it has been ever since. Over the years, the project has been in the hands of several Leuven scholars, such as Gérard Verbeke, Fernand Bossier, Jozef Brams, Carlos Steel, Pieter De Leemans and Lisa Devriese. Although the project is housed in Leuven, more specifically at the De Wulf-Mansion Centre for Ancient, Medieval and Renaissance Philosophy (Institute of Philosophy, KU Leuven), the editions are prepared by an international team of researchers.
In 2023, it is exactly 50 years that the project will be in Leuven, a milestone that we cannot let go unnoticed. The Congress will celebrate this important occasion by bringing together current editors of Aristoteles Latinustexts, as well as researchers who are closely connected to the project.

The archaeological laboratory of the University of Ferrara, which is in the first extra-urban stretch of the ancient via Appia at the so-called tomb of Geta, investigates a crucial area of passage between the ancient city of Rome and its cultivated territory. The area was connoted with a religious and mythical sense in antiquity, but, at the same time, it is still unknown from an archaeological point of view. In any case, the laboratory does not have exclusively scientific purposes: the excavation site is deeply linked to the socio-political dynamics that characterise the area – which is currently in a heavy state of degradation aggravated by the illegal occupation of public plots of land – and is part of a wider project aimed at regenerating the urban area. In this sense, the active participation of the inhabitants of the neighbourhoods gravitating around the Appia Park becomes the key to a process of shared value assignment between archaeology and local communities. This participation is stimulated through social surveys and an unconventional enhancement of the site, through architectural and artistic planning dedicated to the area. The goal is the creation of a ‘heritage community’ directly involved in the processes of transformation, as well as in the planning and protection of an area that has remained too long forgotten. The first excavation campaign, which was designed based on the results of previous geophysical investigations, conducted with geomagnetic and ground penetrating radar instruments, brought to light a multi-layered burial context from the imperial era, with great archaeological potential.

I grandi cambiamenti che si manifestarono durante la lunga fase storica compresa tra il tardoantico e l’altomedioevo causarono un peggioramento delle condizioni di vita nella Pars Occidentis imperiale, ma diedero anche avvio a nuove dinamiche commerciali e ad inedite evoluzioni della cultura
materiale. Il convegno sarà focalizzato sulle nuove realtà economiche che fecero da propulsore alla produzione e circolazione di merci e manufatti, proponendosi di utilizzare i dati archeologici per restituire il panorama produttivo e commerciale delle aree italiche nord-occidentali e quelle della
Gallia meridionale. L’incontro di studi si propone di esaminare la circolazione delle merci e dei manufatti, in particolare ceramici, e di ricostruire la viabilità commerciale marittima e terrestre che univa due aree territoriali contermini. In modo specifico, verrà dato ampio spazio all’analisi distributiva di classi e manifatture ceramiche importate o prodotte in ambito locale, alla restituzione della viabilità tardoantica ed altomedievale e dei paesaggi storico-geografici in cui è calata.

Alla luce dei contributi di Mariarita Sgarlata sulla topografia cristiana in Sicilia, in questa sede viene proposto un aggiornamento sul paesaggio del cristianesimo primitivo nell'area sud orientale dell'isola. In particolare viene affrontato il tema dell'architettura basilicale dei secoli V-VIII e il rapporto con la viabilità e con il territorio.

The Plio-Quaternary Acque Albule Basin is already known for the occurrence of sinkholes; since the spring 2014, it has been ongoing the study of an active subsidence process, which formed a depressed area near the Guidonia village. During the last year, the phenomenon has become more intense giving rise to two collapses along the eastern rim of the depression. Thus, geophysical and geochemical investigation campaigns started in order to understand the genesis and evolution of the phenomenon. Survey results allowed a geological and structural characterization, showing the presence of “travertino” at the depression margins and its absence therein. It has been recognized, by the geophysics, features with NW-Se and NNe-SSW direction ascribable to a possible depression fracturing and consistent with regional structural trends. The 3rd-century period in Ostia reveals an intriguing evolution of its ager publicus (Region II). Demarcated by the urban praetor Caninius in the 2nd century B.C. to serve as a river port, the ager publicus still encompasses important public and private buildings constructed over time such as the Baths of Neptune, the theatre, barracks, and dwellings. The study of the buildings in this area helps us explain their presence and comprehend the evolution of the function of this public area.
Region II was therefore densely built up in the the 2nd century but, contrary to what may appear, it reverted to its original function, primarily centred on the management and storage of foodstuffs, between the 2nd and 3rd centuries. However, the ager publicus then appears to have entirely relinquished its original annonary function within just one century.
While the 3rd century might appear less interesting when compared to of the large-scale constructions of the 2nd century, it assumes a pivotal role in understanding the development of this region, especially its annonary role.

Benvenuti a Cesano di Roma, epicentro di un territorio ben definito sotto il profilo storico-geografico, ricco di specificità ed eccellenze paesaggistiche, monumentali, artistiche e culturali. Un ambito territoriale tutto da scoprire, che oggi ricade nel XV Municipio e nei Parchi Naturali Regionali di Bracciano-Martignano e di Veio, ma che nell'antichità era delimitato dal tracciato delle vie Cassia e Clodia, nei pressi dei bacini vulcanici di Baccano e Martignano. Attraverso questa suggestiva esposizione didattica si potranno ripercorrere migliaia di anni di civilizzazione della Terra di Cesano, alla scoperta dei più importanti segni qui lasciati dal popolamento umano.

Sparne-un pianoro tufaceo triangolare compreso tra i torrenti Bavoso e Rubbiano sulla riva destra del fiume Fiora-, hanno portato alla luce un abitato etrusco. Vi si riconoscono tre fasi costruttive: la prima riferibile al periodo protovillanoviano (XI-X secolo a.C.), la seconda inquadrabile tra la fine dell'VIII e la metà del VI secolo a.C. e l'ultima del periodo tardo ellenistico (dal II secolo a.C.). L'insediamento sorto nel periodo più recente del Villanoviano era delimitato da una cinta muraria (che comprendeva un territorio di circa nove ettari) in opus quadratum di circa 3 km e da un fossato con rinforzi. Le case, vicino alle quali passava una larga via lastricata, erano realizzate in blocchi di tufo a secco. Sull'Acropoli, sorta prima dell'abitato, vi era un tempio ed altri edifici. Nella parte orientale sono emerse le fondazioni di un grande edificio affacciato su uno spiazzo lastricato. Nei pressi della struttura sono state rinvenute numerose lastre architettoniche (originariamente dipinte) a basso rilievo, riferibili a due successive fasi decorative. Al periodo tra la fine del VII e l'inizio del VI secolo a.C. appartengono due tipologie di fregi costituiti, rispettivamente, da (a) cervi pascenti e grifi con le fauci spalancate alternati rivolti verso destra e (b) corsa di cavalieri verso sinistra. Gli ulteriori fregi (c) con cortei di biga ed opliti (composti da una biga preceduta da tre armati e seguita da un quarto; sul carro vi sono l'auriga ed un guerriero) articolati in due serie analoghe ma contrapposte e (d) scena (mitologica ?) con una figura maschile ed almeno tre figure femminili in fuga, forse riferibile al mito di Peleo e Teti (madre di Achille), sono attribuibili alla prima metà del VI secolo a.C. Nell'area è stata scavata anche una stipe votiva tarda (del II-I secolo a.C.) che ha restituito statuette (anche di grandi dimensioni) in terracotta, divine ed umane, animali e votivi anatomici. L'interpretazione dell'edificio è dubbia. Alcuni propendono per individuarvi una struttura con funzione religiosa, un tempio in considerazione del ritrovamento delle lastre architettoniche e della stipe votiva che, seppur successiva di secoli, potrebbe confermare la natura sacra dell'area. Secondo altri, tenuto conto che le lastre architettoniche, contrariamente a quello che si riteneva in passato, potevano costituire ornamento anche di edifici civili e che le offerte votive attestano una stipe del tardo ellenismo e quindi non contestuale alla struttura, potrebbe trattarsi di un palazzo signorile, di una reggia al pari di quelle di Murlo (SI) e di Acquarossa (VT). I proprietari del palazzo potrebbero essere tra gli aristocratici locali deposti nelle tombe scavate nelle vicine necropoli di Poggio Buco e di Selva Miccia. L'insediamento che rientrava nell'orbita di Vulci aveva vocazione agricola e commerciale e risulta abbandonato poco dopo la metà del VI secolo a.C. l'Abbandono potrebbe essere stato determinato, così come avviene per molti centri minori dell'Etruria soprattutto meridionale, dalla politica espansionistica del grande centro di riferimento (nella fattispecie Vulci). La fine di Poggio Buco potrebbe però essere stata causata anche dalla vicina Pitigliano che risulterebbe essersi sviluppata nella seconda metà del VI secolo a.C. e che seppe mantenere la sua autonomia per un periodo di tempo più lungo (fino alla fine dello stesso secolo). Il ritrovamento nel sito di alcune ghiande missili iscritte Staties, Statnes in collegamento con le indicazioni fornite da alcune fonti di autori classici in passato ha fatto pensare che potesse trattarsi della misteriosa città di Statonia, tesi che oggi è stata quasi del tutto abbandonata.

Systemic anaplastic large cell lymphomas (ALCL) are a category of T-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphomas which can be divided into anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) positive and ALK negative subgroups, based on ALK gene rearrangements. Among several pathways aberrantly activated in ALCL, the constitutive activation of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is shared by all ALK positive ALCL and has been detected in a subgroup of ALK negative ALCL. To discover essential mediators of STAT3 oncogenic activity that may represent feasible targets for ALCL therapies, we combined gene expression profiling analysis and RNA interference functional approaches. A shRNA screening of STAT3-modulated genes identified interferon regulatory factor 4 (IRF4) as a key driver of ALCL cell survival. Accordingly, ectopic IRF4 expression partially rescued STAT3 knock-down effects. Treatment with immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs) induced IRF4 down regulation and resulted in cell death, a phenot...

Uno studio in corso sulle materie prime litiche durante il Paleolitico medio inferiore presso Grotta Torre dell'Alto (Nardò – Lecce) (Ranaldo et al. 2021. Ranaldo et al. 2022. Eramo et. al. 2022), ha permesso di attivare dal 2019 una lunga campagna esplorativa sistematica tra i Depositi Marini Terrazzati dell'arco ionico, tuttora in corso. I DMT (Depositi Marini Terrazzati) si estendono lungo l'arco ionico con una variazione di ampiezza, natura litologica, potenza, e con una inclinazione sempre rivolta verso il mare (Cotecchia & Magri 1967). La loro disposizione a varie citazione in terrazzi è da attribuire ad azione di abrasione e accumulo da parte di un mare complessivamente in regressione, caratterizzato da brevi episodi di trasgressione.

The settlement of Punta del Segnale, located on the southern coast of the island of Pianosa, was discovered during the surveys carried out by the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici della Toscana between 1980s and 1990s; successive three excavation campaigns were carried out from 2004 until 2006. The site is composed by a series of small rockshelters and caves that open on the high cliff between Punta del Segnale and Cala della Ruta; excavations have brought to light findings generically
considered to be of the Bronze Age. At the top of the plateau an elliptical structure has been discovered: in the center there is a semicircular oven with dome-shaped covering.
The emerging settlement on the plateau can be placed precisely in the middle Bronze Age and has given numerous fragments with Appenninic decorations. Observing the site’s collocation – in a privileged position controlling a large part of the sea between the Tuscan Coast and Corsica – the natural resources offered by sea and land environment, ground morphology – some interesting hypothesis on the site’s habitation are possible.
