1001 Nights

Embung Batur Agung is a source of irrigation for residents around Embung. Depreciation of water in the reservoir occurs due to leakage from the geomembrane layer of the Embung Batur Agung. This study aims to determine the direction of leakage from the reservoir so that appropriate treatment can be carried out. This research was done using hydrogeological analysis and electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) geoelectrical measurements. ERT Geoelectrical measurement uses a dipole-dipole configuration with a spacing of 5 m and 10 m and a line length of 100 m. There are 2 lines in the southwest and southeast of the reservoir. The results of geohydrology analysis, it was found that the aquifer system around the reservoir included in the Gunungsewu aquifer system, and the dynamics of surface groundwater are controlled by faults and fractures. The results of the ERT geoelectrical measurement, there is a low anomaly which can indicate a reservoir leak at 50-60 m on line 1 which is in the southwest of the reservoir. This low anomaly has a vertical pattern as well as there is a fracture which is the cause of the reservoir leak. These low anomaly values range from 4-30 Ωm which can be interpreted as the presence of water that has conductive properties. The results of this study are expected to be used by the local government to handle the leakage of the reservoir.

This article reads Buṭrus al-Bustānī’s 1861 translation of Daniel Defoe's 1719 Robinson Crusoe into Arabic in Beirut alongside Karl Marx's contemporaneous critique of the popularity of Robinsonades among British political economists. Al-Bustānī’s translation of Robinson Crusoe sought to synch Arabic up with a global age of double-column bookkeeping, the telegraph, the steamship, and the newspaper, and in turn supplant the Indian Ocean stories of Sindbad the Sailor among Beirut's merchants. The latter story cycle constitutes Arabic literary capital appropriated, enumerated, and rendered exchangeable by the new novel form in the serialized English press of the mercantilist era. In Capital, Vol. 1, in the chapter “The Fetishism of Commodities and the Secret Thereof,” Marx represents Robinson not as a well-armed slave trader, but rather as endowed with only a watch (unbeknownst to Defoe), paper, pen, and ink. With these tools Marx's Robinson enacts the theory of value in the time of factory labor and the incomplete abolition of slavery. Al-Bustānī—like Faraḥ Anṭūn forty years later—confronts this unevenly syncopated, up-to-the-minute temporality in Arabic, as imperial finance reshapes the resources of the Eastern Mediterranean and migrant laborers depart its shores to work in textile mills in Argentina, Brazil, and the United States.

Hikayelerin büyük bir bölümü düzyazıdan oluşur, ancak bazen duyguları ifade etmek için şiirler, şarkılar ve bilmeceler kullanılmıştır. Şiirlerin çoğu tek kıta veya dörtlüktür, bazıları ise daha uzundur. Binbir Gece Masalları 264 hikâyeden oluşan bir masal antolojisidir. Binbir Gece olarak adlandırılmasının nedeni masalların bin geceye taksim edilerek anlatılmasından kaynaklanmaktadır. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola sebaran anomali medan magnet di sekitar jalur Sesar Oyo, mengetahui sus unan formasi batuan di wilayah sekitar jalur Sesar Oyo, dan mengetahui jalur Sesar Oyo berdasarkan pemodelan geomagnet.Pengambilan data dilakukan menggunakan PPM dengan 35 titik pengamatan dan spasi antar titik pengamatan 1,5 km. Pengolahan data dilakukan dengan koreksi variasi harian, koreksi IGRF, reduksi ke kutub dan kontinuasi ke atas. Pemodelan dilakukan dengan menganalisa anomali medan magnet yang telah direduksi ke kutub dan kontinuasi ke atas dengan ketinggian 2500 m.Hasil analisa menunjukkan rentang nilai anomali medan magnet di kawasan penelitian adalah 180 nT – 660 nT. Este artículo analiza la novela Los recuerdos del porvenir, de Elena Garro, en tanto “novela de deformación”. Esto es, en tanto novela que resiste y deconstruye los discursos dominantes de formación del sujeto moderno en un contexto específico (en este caso, el México posrevolucionario y sus férreas políticas de formación de nuevos ciudadanos). Apoyado en las teorías de Walter Benjamin y Giorgio Agamben sobre la alienación de la experiencia del sujeto moderno, en la historia de la infancia en el México posrevolucionario, y mediante el uso de instrumental narratológico y de análisis del discurso, el autor propone una lectura de la novela donde la infancia se presenta no como una edad ni como una etapa del desarrollo sino como una resistencia, local y colectiva, a la formación de subjetividades impuesta por el gobierno, la Iglesia y la sociedad burguesa: tres instancias que se disputaban cartas de legitimidad en la redistribución de poderes del nuevo orden posrevolucionario.

Este ensayo aborda un cierre, emparentado tradicionalmente, y muchas veces hasta nuestros días, con el discurso del Hispanismo, a partir del trabajo historiográfico y literario llevado a cabo por Goytisolo. Para ello, nos apoyaremos parcialmente en algunas reflexiones de Edward Said, e indicaremos algunas analogías, tal como señala Sebastian Faber, entre Hispanismo y Orientalismo.

Telah dilakukan sintesis senyawa antara 3-(3,4-dimetoksifenil) propanal dalam pembuatan turunan antibiotik C-9154 sebagai upaya perluasan poemanfaatan minyak kayu cengkeh. Eugenol merupakan komponen utama minyak daun cengkeh yang dapat diisolasi menggunakan pelarut natrium hidroksida. Pemanfaatan senyawa ini masih sangat terbatas, sehingga perlu dilakukan upaya pengubahan eugenol menjadi senyawa turunannya yang lebih berdaya guna. Salah satunya, eugenol dapat diubah menjadi senyawa 3-(3,4-dimetoksifenil)-propanal, senyawa tersebut digunakan sebagai bahan untuk mensintesis senyawa turunan antibiotik C-9154. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan bahan dasar metileugenol hasil metilasi eugenol. In this article I compare the receptions of 1001 Nights by four prominent magical realist writers with receptions by three leading critics from the Arab world. I situate this comparison in the space between classical reception studies and global south studies, and I focus on what each writer says the Nights means to them.

Превод је објављен 1827. године у оквиру збирке Servian Popular Poetry, у којој се налази више превода српских народних песама. У раду је анализирана употреба стандардних преводилачких техника и поступака, као и нужна одступања од оригиналног текста у циљу приближавања оригинала англофоном читаоцу и адаптирању његовој култури. Приликом анализе преводилачких техника и поступака, аутор се усредсредио на висок квалитет препева, преношење стилских и формалних особина песме и на превођење елемената типичних за српску културу.

Unlike most western artists about whose life and works we have comprehensive information, in most cases there is little information available about Iranian artists. On the one hand, this kind of information has not been recorded in biographical works, or the documents have been lost over time. On the other hand, in the traditional process of producing manuscripts, the illustrator, negārgar, was not regarded as an independent identity during the production process, and so in many cases there is no information about his name and identity. Instead, the final product is often simply known as “the work of the royal workshop”. In most cases, the Iranian master illustrators did not leave a signature or, if they did, they signed with a great humility, introduced themselves in their signatures as “the humblest servant”. In this process, it is clear that students and second-level illustrators were not allowed to introduce themselves individually and never had the right to acknowledge themselves without the permission of the master of the workshop. This phenomenon results in a big challenge for identifying the works of the Iranian artists.
Nevertheless, the style of specific artists, as perceivable from their works, often supplies a clue to identify anonymous works and attribute them to specific artists. In this article, by studying the works of one of the well-known illustrators of lithographed books of the Qajar period, Mirzā Hasan, I aim to identify him as one of the illustrators of the royal manuscript of the Thousand and One Nights.
Many researchers have studied the text of the Persian translation of the Thousand and One Nights and the illustrations of the royal manuscript. Even so, the available information about the manuscript is mainly restricted to the codicology. Although the names of some of the contributing artists in the project are known to us, these names have always been overshadowed by that of Abu'l-Hasan Ghaffāri, Sani’ al-Mulk, (1230-1282/1814-66) , naqqāshbāshi, master of court painters, of Nāsir al-Din Shāh’s court (r. 1254-1302/1848-1896) and the art director of this project.
Considering the fact that the exquisite manuscript of the Thousand and One Nights was prepared for the court and the king, Sani’ al-Mulk's colleagues in illustrating this important royal manuscript undoubtedly must have been selected from the eminent masters in other genres of illustrative arts. Since lithographed books, in terms of form and content, are the logical continuation of producing manuscripts and display a close thematic and structural relationship with the production of manuscripts, these artists have probably been chosen from the illustrators of lithographed books. My study is based on this assumption and, by comparing the illustrations of the manuscript with those in the lithographed books, seeks to identify one of the manuscript’s anonymous illustrators.
For this research, about 12,000 lithographed images  and over 3000 illustrations of the manuscript have been reviewed and compared.

The proposed paper analyses the system of small buildings that compose the Hameau de la Reine in the Petit Trianon gardens in the park of the royal palace of Versailles. The complex of architectural artefacts, built at the end of the 18th century, emulates the features of vernacular architecture typical of the villages of Normandy. The main interest lies in the analysis of the masonry which reproduces the signs of wear caused by the salty coastal climate of northern France using the trompe-l'oeil technique. The study of the architectural elements found in this part of the park of Versailles, using the tools of the restoration discipline, makes possible the highlighting of the specific qualities that confer recognizability on both the vernacular architecture and its reproductions. The Times Literary supplement 23/11/2016 By ROBERT IRWIN Arabic Manuscripts of the “Thousand and One Nights” (Espaces et Signes), a volume put together under the direction of the subject’s doyen, Aboubakr Chraïbi, puts study of the Nights on a new and more scholarly footing. Not only are all known manuscripts of the Nights catalogued, but the volume also contains the latest, most comprehensive bibliography of Arabic editions and the secondary literature on the Nights, as well as the first proper account of Turkish manuscripts. Since some of these predate the manuscript which Galland translated from and which is the oldest substantially surviving Arabic manuscript, this is of some importance.

The present article examines the ways in which the travels and journeys in Arabia and other Muslim lands of Richard Francis Burton, the nineteenth-century explorer and writer have, since the influential work of EdwardW. Said on Orientalism, been somewhat undervalued by contemporaries. It aims to offer a re-evaluation of those works and their contribution to Victorian knowledge. It will also offer a challenge to Said’s account of Burton and, particularly in the second part, look at ways in which Burton has been viewed more generally by post-colonial theorists since Said’s influential work.
