The Message
We are not numbers
Yet we’re counted one by one
We are not statistics
For use when the need arises
To place importance on the count
We are the message

Each and every person here
A most precious hope deferred

We are your sons and daughters
We are your mothers
We are your fathers and your brothers
We are your sisters and your companions
We are your friends
We are your loved ones Lost on America’s roadways

Look into our faces and understand
Listen to our loved ones’ grief
And with compassion
Count the loss count the cost
Overwhelming

Learn from our stories
Then remember
Each time you turn the key
You are our sons and daughters
You are our mothers
You are our fathers and our brothers
You are our sisters and our companions
You are our friends
Our most precious treasure
There is yet so much to lose.
